The Spartan senior bound for Butler University has been cleared to play against Belleville East.
Thursday Update 8:45 p.m. A little more than two months after suffering a pair of broken arms during a practice session, De Smet Jesuit could see the return of senior Nolan Berry to the court as soon as this weekend. In an email Thursday afternoon, Berry's mother Meg told Patch he was fully cleared to return by a doctor Thursday. This follows a December 20 doctor's visit that showed he was healing faster than expected. At the time, Meg Berry said the doctor wanted to see him back in two weeks for another round of tests. "At that point, if he is at 100% no pain, he should be cleared to begin full practices," she said via email. Since that time, Berry has been in non-contact drills, and stlhighschoolsports.com's Nate Latsch Tweeted that …

The Senior Spartan is working his way back from a pair of broken arms.
De Smet Jesuit basketball fans have known that Nolan Berry, the team's 6-8 forward, would not be on the court Friday night when the Spartans take on Metro Catholic Conference rival CBC. But Berry, who has signed a letter of intent to play at Butler University, now has a better idea of when he'll be able to return to action following a practice accident that left him with a pair of broken arms. He had pointed to a Thursday doctor's appointment as the next step in getting cleared for a return, but given the nature of the injury, nobody really knew what to expect. According to his mother Meg, there was encouraging news, even if it delays his return to the court past the upcoming Meramec Holiday Tournament, which had been targeted as a …

The senior-laden squad is 2-0 after a win over Cardinal Ritter in the Whitfield Tournament.
"Someone has to step up." It may be one of if not the most overrused statements in the sporting world, but if it has ever applied, it has in recent weeks at De Smet Jesuit, as the Spartans have dealt with the loss of injured forward Nolan Berry. Berry, the 6-8 star who signed a letter of intent to play at Butler University earlier this month, broke both of his arms in preseason practice November 20, meaning the team will be missing its 6th all-time leading scorer for an extended period of time. Read: De Smet Jesuit's Nolan Berry Out With Two Fractured Arms How long is still an open question. Coach Kevin Poelker praised Berry's "fire" in wanting to get back as soon as possible---he's already doing therapy-- but the earliest anything figures…

The senior forward will meet with his doctor before Christmas, with hopes of returning before the end of the season.
De Smet Jesuit won the basketball team's varsity season opener against Whitfield School 62-54 Monday without one of the area's best players stepping on the court. The Spartans may have to get used to it for a while. Nolan Berry, the 6-8 forward who has signed a letter of intent to play for Butler University next year, fractured both his arms in practice last week. In an email to Patch late Monday confirming the injury, after news of it was first reported on Twitter by stlhighschoolsports.com's Nate Latsch, Berry's mother Meg said he saw a doctor Monday and will have another meeting December 20. "Nolan is determined he will get the "all clear" at that appointment and be back on the court soon after! (Not sure if that's how it will go but …
