CBC Regroups Against Parkway Central, Advances To District Hoops Final

Junior Jordan Barnett was the game-high scorer with 25 points.

The Hot Read: In the team's first game back on the court since CBC was humbled by De Smet Jesuit at home on Friday, the Cadets shook off some early play that suggested a repeat performance could be in store, dispatching an upset-minded Parkway Central squad 70-50 in a boys district semifinal Tuesday night. Jordan Barnett scored 25 to lead the way for CBC (20-7). Pat McCaw added 15 and Zach Fischer had 14 for the Cadets. Parkway Central (15-14) was led by Nathan Biggs' 17 in defeat. The Cadets boast a junior class that is the envy of college recruiters around the country, but early on, CBC turnovers, combined with Parkway Central's ability to use back door cuts and the rim for protection on layups against CBC's interior strength kept the …

De Smet Jesuit Blows By CBC In Season Finale; District Play Starts Tuesday

The Spartans took it to the Cadets Friday, spoiling Senior Night for CBC.

The Hot Read: In a game that was not as close as the final score indicated, De Smet Jesuit went on the road and defeated CBC 74-61 at DC Wilcutt Gym. The win moves the Spartans to 20-6 to the end the regular season. Nolan Berry had 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Jimmy Barton added 20 points and six assists. The Spartans had a 22 point lead at the half which ballooned higher in the third quarter. Patch's MVP: De Smet Jesuit's Basketball IQ- The Spartans took high percentage shots, thanks in large part to finding the open man with unselfish passing. Outside of the typical Spartan stars, Brandon Shackleford had a second half layup in his sights, and instead gave it to Berry for a dunk. Joey Lodes came off the bench and had a thunderous block …

Academy Soccer Stars Still Honored by Schools They Didn't Play For as Seniors

Schools had to decide if they wanted to recognize students who were athletes but had left prep programs to play for Academy soccer programs under new national guidelines.

To celebrate or not celebrate, that was the question. As many high schools seniors around the area made their college choices official by signing and submitting their national letters of intent last week, followed by ceremonies to recognize the athletes for their accomplishment, schools faced something of a conundrum: Do you celebrate athletes who in part may have earned their college scholarships based on what they did away from the high school playing fields? With USA Soccer's decision to force elite prep soccer players to choose between their high schools and their academy programs in effect for the first time this season, traditional St. Louis soccer programs like De Smet Jesuit, CBC and Priory each faced that decision. Brian Hail, the…

Chaminade Defeats Rock Bridge In State Soccer Semifinal

The Red Devils' 2-1 overtime win paves way for meeting with fellow St. Louis power CBC Saturday.

In a move that KSDK sporstscaster Frank Cusumano deadpanned Friday night was as smart as moving Jay Leno to 10pm, St. Louis area soccer powers Chaminade and CBC will square off for a state title Saturday...in Blue Springs. Chaminade needed overtime before Jason Pesek ended the contest at 2-1. The CBC Cadets earned their way in by defeating Rockhurst 1-0 in Class 3's other semifinal. To listen to Friday's match and to hear Saturday's 4 p.m. final go to Chaminade's CSPN By the way, the MSHSAA contract will keep soccer's final four at Blue Springs South High School until spring 2014.

CBC Shuts Out De Smet In District Soccer Semifinal

Cadets avenge loss in 2011 District Final to knock off the defending state champion Spartans.

In a matchup of two well-known traditional St. Louis soccer powers that felt a little strange to see any earlier than in a district final, CBC bested De Smet 2-0 in a first round/semifinal match Tuesday at W. Michael Ross Stadium in Town and Country. Check out Patch photos from the match on Facebook It was physical on the pitch early and often as the two Metro Catholic Conference rivals went at it with the most on the line since De Smet's (12-9-4) win in the district championship in 2011 propelled the Spartans to a state title. But Tuesday, CBC (19-5-1) Sophomore Devon Boyce and Senior Forward LJ Adewumni found themselves in the thick of the Cadets' chances, and they capitalized. Boyce found the back of the net with just under 10 minutes …

Cadets Pick Apart Ladue In CBC Tournament Hoops Contest

Rams get off to early lead, then fall to CBC in the D.C. Wilcutt Tournament semifinals, 78-57.

The Ladue Rams really wanted to beat the CBC Cadets on the Cadets' own floor in their own tournament. “I really think we can do it,” said assistant coach Todd Basler, prior to tipoff in the semifinals of the D.C. Wilcutt Invitational Wednesday night. For a while, Basler’s prediction was looking pretty good. The Cadets raced out to a 7-2 lead, allowing Ladue back into the game and confident visiting squad regained the lead and led at the end of the first quarter 16-9. In the second quarter, the Cadets steadily took control of the game, opening up a 26-18 lead and at halftime it was CBC 34, Ladue 24. By the time veteran coach Bob McCormack had cleared his bench, his Cadets won convincingly, 78-57. CBC plays Lutheran North in Friday’s 8 p.m …

Third Time Is No Charm For CBC: De Smet Wins District Soccer Crown

The Spartans head to the state soccer tournament Tuesday.

Beating any team three times in a single season is tough. And in a conference game or against a heated rival, it's even more unlikely. You know your opponents almost as well as you know yourself. By that logic, the sports law of averages was bound to be in De Smet's favor heading to the pitch against CBC Wednesday, having lost 2-1 in September and then again in penalty kicks last month. But that only served to stir a crazed scene of celebration on the field Wednesday after De Smet ended CBC's hopes for a state title with a 2-1 overtime win for the District 2 crown. De Smet Senior Scott Russo put the ball in the net past CBC Junior keeper Nathaniel Griffin with 6:30 left in the first overtime period, sending the Spartans on to the state …
