City officials have been unable to reach the artist supposed to build an artistic bus shelter on Olive Boulevard.
Little Red Riding Hood may not be coming to Creve Coeur. Artists who won a design competition for a public transit shelter to be located near the CVS Pharmacy and St. Luke's Urgent Care on Olive Boulevard have not been in contact with city officials for several months, and have yet to sign a contract for the project. Creve Coeur Planning and Community Development Director Paul Langdon told City Planning and Zoning Commissioners Monday that as a result, city officials are looking at other alternatives, including the possibility of working with the artist who finished second in the initial selection process. Volkan Alkanoglu, who paired with Marc Fornes to win the contest last year, told Patch by email Wednesday that he notified city …

A drug agent had a meth lab blow up in his face and said it can happen to a curious child just as easily. He tells Patch criminals are coming to St. Louis County to buy pseudoephedrine and that means meth is being made here, too.
Sgt. Jason Grellner, of the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, has been busting meth labs since 1997, but all that experience did not prevent a "shake and bake" meth lab from exploding in his face. "I'm missing 27 percent of my lungs," said Grellner, who is also president of the Missouri Narcotics Association. "I lost 27 percent of my lung capacity in 2002. I opened a container sitting in a driveway." If that can happen to an experienced drug agent, it can happen to any curious child who stumbles upon a plastic bottle or an adult who is picking up what is thought to simply be trash, said Grellner, who is the unit commander of the Franklin County Narcotics Unit, which works in conjunction with the St. Louis County Drug Task Force. This …

Planning and Zoning Commission members could make a final decision next month.
Many of us are probably thinking about our next destination when we visit a bus stop, but artists competing for a city project to design a bus shelter for Olive Boulevard told city leaders Monday they had something else in mind for the space in front of CVS and St. Luke's Urgent Care. The artists offered up proposals for the bus shelter, which would double as public art, in hopes their designs will kindle memories and experiences inside and out. The finalists, selected from a pool of more than 40 who responded to a call for qualifications earlier this year, brought differing results from the same inspiration, the legend behind Creve Coeur. Marc Fornes & Volkan Alkanoglu's design, entitled "Red Riding Hood" uses an aerial photo of Creve …
