It isn't everyday someone presents your life to you by the numbers. On June 9, former Creve Coeur Mayor Harold Dielmann had that experience -- adding it to the counted others commemorating his retirement from 28 years of public service as mayor. Though his terms were broken up from 1966-1985 and 2003-2012, Dielmann's impact in the city and in other area capacities were recognized in full fashion from city and state government officials, business owners, friends and family. Dielmann, 82 -- as he was reminded in the "Harold by the Numbers" presentation during the evening -- was the honored guest at the Skip Viragh Center for the Fine Arts at Chaminade. A weekend devoted each year to area baseball skills, games and clinics will be hosted at Busch Stadium June 18 and sponsored by PNC Banks. Select 50 players include local athletes from Eureka, Wildwood and Pacific.
The third annual PNC Bank High School Baseball Showcase presented by Rawlings on June 18 will provide 50 fortunate high school seniors the chance to demonstrate to NCAA coaches and professional scouts they have what it takes to make it in the big leagues. Among them are local baseball players with Creve Coeur ties. Tate Matheny, recent St. Louis Cardinals draft pick and son of Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny, is on the roster as an outfielder and Westminster representative. Chaminade's Nolan Sponslor is noted at shortstop, and Westminster's Rich Van Gilst joins the coaching crew as an assistant coach.
