Creve Coeur Soccer Coach Gets Hall Of Fame Induction Saturday

De Smet Jesuit's Greg Vitello is part of the inaugural Hall of Fame Class for the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association.

The St. Louis area's heritage as a high school soccer hotbed will be on full display Saturday, when the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association inducts the organization's first hall of fame class Saturday, and the Metro Catholic Conference will take center stage. De Smet Jesuit's Greg Vitello, CBC's Terry Michler, Mike Villa of Vianney are part of the class, as are the late Ebbie Dunn of SLUH and Bob Horgan of CBC. "It means a whole lot, especially with the group of individuals being inducted," Vitello said Thursday, noting that he grew up in coaching with many of them. Creve Coeur Patch Year In Photos

Some of our favorites from 2012. We took some of them, and so did users like you

We've reached that time of year...it is time to look back at the year that was. Today, we're doing that in photos. Some of them were taken by Patch staff, but a lot of them came from users like you. Because you posted photos in our Pics & Clips Gallery, we followed Pattonville High School's trip to Hawaii, Chaminade Soccer's road to the state finals, met Leap Year babies, and a city council member's cat. Together with some of our shots, which captured some fun and memorable moments from the year, this is our collective look at 2012. Take a look at what we've assembled here and get ready to share your photos in 2013.

Soccer Players Begin Choosing Between Academy and High Schools

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch boys player of the year will not suit up for De Smet in the fall.

Repeating as state champions in any sport is trying even under the most ideal circumstances. Injuries and graduation are just some of the factors at play. But when the De Smet Spartans open up defense of their state soccer crown next month, they will do so without one of the best players in the area who would otherwise be eligible to play. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday that Brian Hail, the paper's All-Metro soccer player of the year in 2011, has chosen to stick with the Scott Gallagher Academy Program. New this year, boys are being required to choose the Academy or the high school route as USA Soccer nationally puts an emphasis on player development that it has said will lead to greater inroads in international competition, …
