When Creve Coeur firefighter Scot Heller climbs to the top of the second tallest building west of the Mississippi River on Sunday, it will be to fight cancer, not to fight fires. Heller will one of only 1,552 firefighters participating in the 22nd Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on Sunday in Seattle, WA. This annual event benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Creve Coeur Fire Protection crews responded to a three alarm blaze overnight near Page and Lindbergh
Creve Coeur Fire Protection District crews and other authorities are investigating an overnight fire in the Oak Forest Apartment complex near Page Avenue and Lindbergh Blvd. Watch FOX2 news coverage of the fire Fire district spokesman Jerry McQueen tells Patch 12 twelve apartments in the complex were evacuated and two people, one resident and a firefighter were sent to the hospital. Both have been treated and released. McQueen said a resident in the complex admitted that he fell asleep while smoking and that the man tried to put the fire out with water and blankets. Firefighters were called at 2:20 Thursday morning and found fire on every level of the three story complex. Six units are uninhabitable. McQueen said the man would not be …

Ceremonies and events are planned in and around Creve Coeur to remember those lost to terrorist attacks in New York City, The Pentagon and Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.
Firefighters, government bodies and businesses are pausing to remember the lives of those lost 11 years ago today in the worst terrorist attack ever on American soil. Monday night, Creve Coeur Mayor Barry Glantz referenced the victims of the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania during the invocation at the regular City Council meeting.

Creve Coeur Fire and Monarch Ambulance crews responded to the bizarre scene at New Ballas and Studt Tuesday afternoon.
A Creve Coeur Fire Protection District spokesman said two people were transported to a nearby hospital Tuesday after a one car accident in parking lot at New Ballas and Studt Ave. According to Jerry McQueen, Deputy Fire Marshal, the driver in the vehicle said he hit the accelarator instead of the brakes around 3 p.m. and was left teetering over an edge. A picture of the incident on FOX2's Facebook page showed the scene. Do you have pictures from the scene? Share them in our Pics Gallery McQueen said crews instructed the two people, who had their seatbelts fastened, to stay inside the vehicle until it was secure. McQueen described them as unhurt, but "shaken up."

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, but no one was injured.
Creve Coeur Fire Protection District crews responded to a fire Sunday night at the Willow Brook Condo Association when a resident returned home to the unit, saw smoke coming out from the door and heard a smoke alarm. A Fire Department spokesman said the man entered the three bedroom condo unit, went to the second floor and then got out unharmed. An adjoining unit was evacuated as a precaution but the apartment where the incident originated suffered heavy smoke and fire damage.

No one was injured in the Tuesday afternoon blaze.
Creve Coeur Fire Protection District investigators have determined that a fire Tuesday afternoon which did significant damage to a home in the Westwood Place neighborhood was accidentally caused by discarded "smoking materials" in a trash can. The material, likely cigarettes, were in a trash can on an enclosed back porch. The American Red Cross has assisted the family, which escaped unharmed and found temporary housing.

Candidates had until Tuesday afternoon to file for the April election.
There will be familiar names and faces on the ballot when voters decide who will sit on the board of directors for the Creve Coeur Fire Protection District in April. Incumbent Ron Olshwanger is seeking a new six year term, while Cathy Keeler is running to fill out the remaining for year year unexpired term of her late husband, Rick Keeler. Keeler will be opposed by Sam Goodman, who most recently ran against Rick Keeler in the 2010 campaign. Goodman's wife Lili Lieberman will challenge Olshwanger. Election day is April 3.

Creve Coeur will have uncontested races for City Council.
5:42 p.m. Update: No other City Council candidates filed by Tuesday's 5 p.m. deadline. A Ladue School district spokeswoman told Patch that Lee Brotherton, who declared his intention to run for one of the two open seats on the board of education, removed his name from consideration Tuesday. Brotherton declined comment about his decision when reached by Patch Tuesday evening. Incumbents Audrey Mack and Sheri Glantz remain on the ballot, along with newcomer Nancy Leve Goldstein.
