While crews are working on the roadway above, drivers on I-55 heading to I-70 may be detoured onto Memorial Drive and back to the interstate for safety. The ramps from Forest Park Avenue and Pine Street to eastbound I-64 are closed around the clock through November. Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

The city says the developer wants more time to pour over an evaluation of their traffic study.
The Creve Couer Planning and Zoning Commission's decision on granting Delmar Gardens a change in zoning to move forward with a plan for single family housing along with assisted, skilled and independent living facilities on 28 acres will not come prior to November 19. Monday, the city's Director of Community Development, Paul Langdon, told Patch that Delmar Gardens requested a continuance for the November 5 meeting so it could review and respond to a city traffic consultant's review of Delmar's traffic plan for the project. Langdon said in an email that the city's report was not yet complete but was expected "any day," and would be made available to the commission at the same time it is made available to the public, sometime later this …

Creve Coeur City Council members urged public works staff to move forward with the safety measure Monday.
In a few weeks, drivers and pedestrians along Conway Road will notice a new device meant to ensure pedestrian safety at Laduemont Drive, even if residents in the area don't want it there. After hearing last month from residents opposed to the installation of a traffic beacon, like the one pictured here near Spoede Elementary, council members said they would visit the area and render a decision. Residents in the nearby subdivisions questioned if the device was incorporated into sidewalk construction in the area as a way of helping the city "score well" on grant applications as opposed to being something truly needed. The beacon's flashing light operates for 20 seconds when a button is pressed and then the solar-powered light shuts off. …

Sometime in the not too distant future, a trip to Silky's or Jimmy Johns in Creve Coeur's Bellerive Plaza might be a little easier. The DESCO Group, owner of the property located west of Interstate 270, is asking the city to let it adjust its development plan for the site in order to add a left turn lane heading onto Olive Boulevard westbound. City Planner Whitney Kelly told Patch the proposal means getting rid of the existing median, which means adding greenspace elsewhere on the property. Kelly said under the arrangement, which would also include MoDOT, DESCO would cover the cost of new light signals at the intersection to account for the new turn signal. A representative from The DESCO Group declined immediate comment Thursday by phone…

Creve Coeur-area commuters will see smoother sailing this summer.
Trips from West County to Page Avenue and the Maryland Heights Expressway should go more smoothly after July 1. That’s when the new Highway 141, between Ladue Road and Olive Boulevard, and the Page-Olive Connector, between Olive and the Maryland Heights Expressway, are scheduled for completion. Work is on track for both, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation and St. Louis County. The new highways, located a couple miles west of Interstate 270, will take some north-south traffic, especially that going to St. Charles County via the Page extension. (The Page extension is also known as Route 364.) The southern section, Route 141, is a MoDOT project. The Page-Olive Connector, to the north, is a St. Louis County Department of …

Two items: (1) There might actually be a side benefit to eliminating the median: I've always been curious when running on the sidewalk along Olive adjacent to Bellerive Plaza, how the handicap ramps allow access from the sidewalks along each side of the entry but wheelchair users are abrubtly faced with a median with vertical curbs that they somehow must cross. It has no effect on runners/walkers…   more ›
