101 Sportsline with Brett McMillan debuts Sunday morning at 6 a.m.
After a few weeks of studying up, a Lindenwood University junior is ready to step up to the microphone this weekend. Brett McMillan, who beat out 175 competitors in a contest last month to see who would earn a one year contract to become the next host at Creve Coeur-based 101 ESPN, will hit the airwaves for the first time Sunday, starting at 6 a.m. Since he was selected, McMillan said he's been working with Program Director Chris Neupert and has sat in with hosts to try and pick up the station's culture. He singled out Fast Lane co-host Randy Karraker, a Lindenwood graduate, for his help. McMillan grew up in Ballwin and moved with his family to Portland before returning to the area and attending O'Fallon Christian High School. "I love …

The former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder has been recovering from October surgery on a brain tumor.
Chris Duncan has made frequent appearances back on the airwaves at WXOS 101 ESPN Radio following surgery in October on a brain tumor, but the former St. Louis Cardinal-turned broadcaster appears ready to resume his regular perch at the Creve Coeur based station. "REALLY looking forward to having @chrisduncan11 back in his chair for the @101ESPNFastLane tomorrow at 2:00. Welcome back, Dunc," was what Randy Karraker tweeted Sunday, about the drive-time show the pair have co-hosted with former St. Louis Ram D'Marco Farr. Duncan re-tweeted the message. Duncan has talked publicly about his recovery, both to St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Joe Strauss and to Rene Knott of KSDK-TV. Former Cardinals pitcher Brad Thompson has filled in dutifully …

The Fighting Irish and the Crimson Tide, ranked number 1 and 2 respectively in the BCS poll, kick off at 7:30 CT. The game can be seen on ESPN TV and can also be heard on 101 ESPN Radio. Oddsmakers have Alabama favored by more than a touchdown, but we asked Creve Coeur and St. Louis area high school football coaches for their analysis: Parkway North Coach Bob Bunton: Alabama I am a huge Notre Dame fan so in my heart I want the Irish to win. However, I think the 'Bama defense is going to be too much for ND and am going to pick the Tide. I do look for a close game because I think the long time off …

The longtime defensive coach-turned-sports talk show host will still be involved in the Creve Coeur FM Sports Talk station's NFL coverage.
UPDATED 11:07 a.m. An emotional Rick Venturi said goodbye to 101 ESPN listeners and his colleagues Friday morning. "This is my last day," a choked up Venturi said during a live remote of the 9-11 a.m. broadcast of Zach & The Coach. Venturi said the plan had been to finish out the current football season before making the change, until trouble with a hip which he said left him in "mortal pain" recently, forced the immediate move. Venturi said he and his family will relocate to Indianapolis to have hip replacement surgery. He said he wanted to step away to spend time with his grandchildren as well as to spend time at a Florida home. Venturi said he is not retiring, and that he plans to remain involved in the station's NFL coverage in the …

How have the last few months unfolded for you? Been busy? You'll have to excuse St. Louis Rams Chief Executive Officer Kevin Demoff if you've seen him around town and he's looked pre-occupied.
He's had to fire the team's head coach and general manager, and then hire their replacements. He was part of the braintrust that wheeled and dealed its way to trades leading up to the just-completed NFL Draft as the team tries to rebound from a disappointing 2011 season. Oh, and all of that as the Rams and St. Louis civic leaders are engaged in talks tied to the lease at the Edward Jones Dome. There has already been plenty of speculation, informed and otherwise over the team's long-term future in St. Louis, which wasn't helped by the team's decision to play a few games in London over the next few seasons. Now the Convention and Visitor's Commission is asking a judge about the ability to keep negotiations in private despite Sunshine Law …

Afternoon drive cohost for Creve Coeur based 101 ESPN returns after quadruple bypass less than a month ago.
When Randy Karraker was last in front of a radio microphone, few knew who Jeremy Lin was, and the Rams' new defensive coordinator was not yet in the public crosshairs of an NFL investigation into an alleged bounty program. Oh how times have changed. But Friday, Karraker returned to the airwaves of 101 ESPN, just a mere weeks after undergoing quadruple heart bypass surgery. The host of the afternoon drivetime program The Fast Lane, which broadcast live from Creve Coeur's Buffalo Wild Wings, had surgery February 14. Karraker had stents put in in late 2010 and felt pain in his chest in January. Tests after he returned from Super Bowl coverage revealed he had blockages of 60-70 percent in one artery and 70-80 percent in another. Karraker said …

Stanford and Pitt caved in to ND when they remembered who they were and whom they were playing. Alabama won't do that...any more than Rocky Marciano did when he realized he was in the ring with the hero of all the coloreds, Joe Louis. Alabama will win as much for its players' mental toughness as their skills. The Catholics won't be happy later tonight. And the Stanford/Pitt players will feel even…   more ›
