Creve Coeur City Council To Talk Trash Again

Members have lingering questions regarding last month's victorious sales tax vote. City Finance Commission chair who also worked on campaign committee is expected to appear.

It's been an eventful last month and a half for Stan Edelstein. He's chairman of the city of Creve Coeur's appointed Finance Commission, and, acting as a private citizen, was Treasurer for "Creve Coeur Cares", the campaign committee which supported last month's victorious campaign to pass a sales tax related to city trash collection. His actions have been alternately praised and criticized, depending on the meeting. Tonight, he's expected to appear before City Council members and defend himself against claims on his character. As first reported last week by Creve Coeur Patch, at issue are the campaign finance reports Edelstein filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission on behalf of Creve Coeur Cares. Trash Talk? Allegations of Ethical Violations Arise After Vote on Waste Collection

Emails obtained by Creve Coeur Patch document the controversy.

More than a month after voters approved a sales tax increase to delay service charges for Creve Coeur trash collection, City Council members and others say there are unanswered questions about how one of the city's largest contractors may have been involved in backing a campaign committee which supported the measure. Creve Coeur Cares was established on October 4, according to documents on file with the Missouri Ethics Commission.  The committee's final pre-election report listed in-kind contributions totaling  $1,299.93 from Mark's Quick Printing Inc., related to the cost of printing mass mail literature and campaign signs. FedEx has provided a quote that the 6000 mailers would cost $5300.oo to print and mail to the registered voter homes in creve coeur.
