Santa Claus Coming To Creve Coeur Saturday

Santa's Safety Fair will be held at the Creve Coeur Fire Protection District's Station 1.

Santa Claus is a busy man these days, but he'll take a break from Christmas preparations this weekend to make a special trip to Creve Coeur. He'll be at Creve Coeur Fire Station 1 on Olive Boulevard across from CityPlace Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for photos with kids at Santa's Safety Fair. The fire department's event will also include free hot chocolate, fresh cookies and advice on holiday safety tips. Winners of a coloring contest at the fair will get a trip to school in a fire truck. The department is also collecting new and unwrapped toys which will be donated to the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. Don't forget to post photos from the event in our Pics & Clips Gallery!

Fernway Fire Victim's Condition Improves

Authorities have not released details of their investigation into the March fire.

The Monarch Fire Protection District posted on Facebook late Thursday that the man who suffered serious burns in a fire on Fernway Lane last month in Creve Coeur is still recovering at Mercy Hospital St. Louis, but is improving. The unidentified victim has been upgraded from critical to stable condition. Monarch Fire Marshal Roger Herin told Patch Friay via email that investigators are "narrowing down" what caused the blaze, but could not release anything yet.  In a Patch Blog post about lessons to be learned from the incident, Herin wrote that the smoke alarms were not working in the home because the batteries had never been changed. Herin urged the public Friday to test the alarms monthly.
