As 'American Idol' heads toward Tuesday's final performance show and Wednesday's season finale, we check in with our blogger who made it to the FOX show's Hollywood round.
Chaminade graduate and Chesterfield native Chris Bandi, a singer who earned a golden ticket out of St. Louis auditions on American Idol before getting eliminated, is back in the area for a few weeks before continuing on his musical journey. In case you've missed it, he's been blogging about how the rest of the season has played out and plans to keep on doing it after Tuesday's final performance show. Fifteen students from Parkway North High School, Ladue Horton-Watkins High School, Whitfield School, De Smet Jesuit High School and Pattonville High School have signed up for the St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase Competition.
High school students from Creve Coeur will compete Saturday in the St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase Competition in a bid for thousands of dollars in scholarships. Fifteen students from Parkway North High School, Ladue Horton-Watkins High School, Whitfield School, De Smet Jesuit High School and Pattonville High School have signed up to be part of the 119 acts in the competition: The preliminary rounds on March 10 and 11 will narrow the field down to about 30 acts. The final 12 will perform at The Fabulous Fox Theater on April 27. The first, second and third place winners earn $7,000, $5,000 or $3,000 in scholarships, respectively. Chris Bandi made it out of the St. Louis audition and into Hollywood Week on the popular FOX network program.
St. Louis already has a track record when it comes to producing success on FOX's American Idol. Nikko Smith, son of the legendary St. Louis Cardinals shortsop and Carrie Underwood, who caught the eye of judges here, are proof of that. Now, a Chaminade College Prep graduate is about to see if he has what it takes as the latest season of the talent search contest enters "Hollywood Week" Wednesday and Thursday. Chris Bandi, a 2008 Chaminade graduate, didn't end up in the episode dedicated to the St. Louis audition. But his version of Walking in Memphis was enough to earn a "golden ticket" to Hollywood. 101.1 will offer special programming along with the national radio broadcast of the fall classic between the Cardinals and Rangers.
Two months ago, Creve Coeur-based WXOS 101.1 FM had plans to rearrange evening programming, effective in early October. Among the moves, a show featuring Brian Stull and Chris Duncan was going to occupy the 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. weeknight slot, followed by Cliff Saunders' "The Late Shift," which would move to an earlier 8 p.m. slot. Thanks to the St. Louis Cardinals' inspired run through the postseason, those changes have been put on hold.
