Monarch Adds New Firefighting Tool, Thanks to Grant

The district was given $1,500 from the Missouri American Water Company toward the purchase of a fire eductor. The tool allows for the pumping of water from sources, such as streams or swimming pools, and will aid in the fighting of fires in rural areas.

Monarch Fire Protection District teams added another tool to their firefighting arsenal, thanks to a grant from the Missouri American Water Company. A check for $1,500 toward the purchase of a fire eductor was presented to Monarch Assistant Chief John Borgmann Feb. 11. The donation was part of a grant program run by the company that benefits fire districts in areas covered by Missouri American Water. According to a press release from the district, the Turbodraft fire eductor is used to access “static water sources,” such as lakes or ponds that are not easily reached by using typical drafting, or suction, techniques. Danforth Plant Science Center in Creve Coeur To Receive $70 Million Grant

The amount will be the Danforth Foundation's last as it shuts down later this year.

The Danforth Foundation announced Friday it will award its final grant to The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. The award of $70 million will fund staff additions, expand training for scientists, and help "accelerate the translation of basic discoveries into commercial applications," stated the center's incoming president, Dr. James Carrington. Making the announcement, former Missouri U.S. Senator John Danforth stood before a crowd of staff, dignitaries and donors Friday at the Creve Coeur facility.
