CBC Gets Ahead Early, Wins District Baseball Title

Cadet Pitcher Dan Herrmann held Parkway North hitless until the third inning.

Parkway North may have been the number one seed in the district four baseball playoff tournament which concluded Wednesday on the Vikings' campus, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a much better team coming down the stretch than the CBC Cadets, who won 8 eight of their last nine heading into the title game against Parkway North. Wednesday, the Cadets got to North pitcher Joe Hope early and chased the Sophomore after taking a 5-0 second inning lead behind two early RBI by CBC's Bobby Lang en route to an 11-6 win. The Cadets got five innings from starter Dan Herrmann, who didn't give up a hit until an Ellis Brodsky single in the third inning. The Parkway North (20-6) bench complained about getting squeezed in the strike zone early, but shaky…

Parkway North Not Sitting On Laurels After Postseason Baseball Run In 2012

The Vikings open the 2013 season ready to use last year's campaign as fuel for motivation.

Note: The doubleheader was postponed Wednesday, and could be played sometime next week. North has a doubleheader scheduled for Thursday at Parkway South. That was then. This is now. That seems to be the mindset for the 2013 edition of the Parkway North baseball team heading into Wednesday's season opener against the Parkway Central Colts. The Vikings have lost centerfielder Michael Bozarth and shortstop Connor Faron, two key cogs in the 2012 squad that got the school to within an inning of a state championship, but have plenty of returning pieces, including a trio of pitchers in Joe Hope, Joey Reeves and Connor Ladig to anchor the rotation. Head Coach Fred Friedman said the expectations which will likely come his team's way based on 2012 …

Parkway North Hurlers Out To Prove 2012 Was No Fluke

Joe Hope and Joey Reeves look forward to full season with the varsity squad after last season's meteoric rise and a ride to the state final four.

When Parkway North needed a boost last season, Head Coach Fred Friedman tapped a pair of pitchers who didn't start the year on varsity. Joe Hope and Joey Reeves came up from JV and pitched the Vikings on a magical run to the state final four in Springfield.  All Hope, then a Sophomore (7-1, 3.40 ERA) did was shut out a Westminster Christian Academy team that's been the best in the state the past two seasons. He also threw a no-hitter in the state semifinal.  Just a Freshman, Reeves (3-0, 1.58 ERA) was masterful in a state quarterfinal win over SLUH, before shoulder tendinitis and what was diagnosed as a stress fracture in his collarbone caught up with him in the state championship game against Rockwood Summit. But that was last year. In …

Just Say No: Hope's No-Hit Masterpiece Leads Parkway North To First State Title Game Appearance

Sophomore Joe Hope throws just the 13th no-hitter in MSHSAA baseball Final Four history, in 1-0 Viking victory, that sets up an all-St. Louis championship game on Saturday, against local league rival Rockwood Summit.

SPRINGFIELD, MO. -- Parkway North baseball coach Fred Friedman has said several times that he has no problem turning the ball over to his two youngest players, sophomore Joe Hope and freshman Joey Reeves, even with the Vikings playing their biggest games of the season. That trust has paid big dividends through the playoffs, as Hope and Reeves have taken turns tossing complete-game victories for North in the district and sectional championship games, as well as last week's state quarterfinals. But on Friday night, Hope made his coach look like a genius, with a performance for the ages, as he tossed a no-hitter to lead Parkway North to a 1-0 win and a trip to Saturday's Class 4 state championship game. Hope struck out seven, walked two, and …

Springfield Bound: Parkway North In State Baseball Semis For 2nd Time Ever

Freshman pitcher Joey Reeves threw a complete-game masterpiece to lead the Vikings to state baseball Final Four for first time since 2003.

When he went to bed on the evening of March 30, Parkway North head baseball coach Fred Friedman wasn't sure what the heck was going on with his Vikings. The team had just played its first seven games of the season, and had only won two of them. And in fact, that particular night, North had just lost its fourth straight. It was early in the season still, but Friedman was already concerned about his club. But beginning that next day, things got a whole lot better for the Vikings, who snapped their losing streak with a win over St. Charles on the last day in March, then continued winning in April and May -- all the way through this past week's district and sectional championship games. Thursday though, was North's biggest win of them all, as …
