Parkway North’s Jovonte Suber nearly pulled the upset of the day in the open 800 meter run while his sister Jasmyne was part of a top-5 relay team.
JEFFERSON CITY -- Parkway North senior Jovonte Suber was oh so close to pulling off the upset of the day in the boys 800-meter run at last Saturday’s MSHSAA State Track and Field Championships at Lincoln University’s Dwight T. Reed Stadium. Suber came into Saturday’s final seeded fourth, behind favored gold medal contenders Kolton Sheldon of Lee’s Summit North, Spencer Haik of Springfield Glendale, and Jordan Cook of Columbia Rock Bridge, and wasn‘t really considered a favorite to win against such big name runners in the half-mile event. But the Parkway North speedster, who finished in 10th place in the 800 last year, and starred on the Vikings varsity football and basketball teams this past fall and winter, had a gameplan that nearly …

The Vikings see the return of Donavin Newsom on both sides of the ball, win handily at Parkway West.
Parkway North Head Football Coach Bob Bunton said his team had been reeling for a month, after losing Donavin Newsom to a knee injury suffered in the first half of the team's opening win against St. Louis University High. Thursday, Newsom returned to the lineup on both sides of the ball, and the result had Parkway West reeling, as the visiting Vikings ran past the Longhorns 35-7. Senior co-captain Jovonte Suber, who emerged during Newsom's absence as North's leading rusher and was the starter Thursday, continued doing the job, running in a pair of scores. Newsom eased into action and found his stride early in the second half. He stopped a play five yards behind the line of scrimmage on defense, and two plays later after a change of …

Senior Jovonte Suber has moved into a featured role following the injury to Vikings star Donavin Newsom. Parkway North plays at 3-0 Kirkwood this week.
Since Parkway North standout and University of Missouri recruit Donavin Newsom left the second half of the Vikings’ 38-20 loss to Rockwood Summit in Week 2, senior Jovonte Suber has moved into a featured back role. He flourished last week, running for 186 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-17 victory over Timberland. The test gets considerably more difficult for the Vikings (2-2, 0-2) Friday at Kirkwood (3-0, 2-0), which is No. 4 in the latest Class 5 statewide poll. The teams meet at 7 p.m. on Friday in a Suburban Conference game. “Jovonte has done a great job for us,” said Parkway North coach Bob Bunton, whose team is receiving votes in the latest Class 5 poll. “He is a hard-working kid who has tremendous toughness. He knew our team …

Jovonte Suber manages a three touchdown day as the Vikings' new lead running back.
UNIVERSITY CITY–After two weeks of intermittent great plays one moment and poor throws and decisions the next, University City quarterback DeAndre Williams decided it was time to put it all together and show off the total package. City to a thrilling 25-20 win over Suburban South Conference rival Parkway North. “I’ve always thought that at critical times, you give the ball to your best player,” U. City head coach Carl Reed said. “If I’m going down, I’m going down with the ball in DeAndre Williams’ hands.” And Reed made sure to go all in with Williams, with the …
