Update: Memorial Service Set For Jim Goessling

The De Smet graduate was a member of the 1973 boys basketball team that won a state championship. He died Sunday after a battle with rectal colon cancer.

Wednesday 12:45 a.m. Update: According to information posted on Legacy.com via The St. Louis Post Dispatch, a memorial service for Jim Goessling will be held Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. at De Smet Jesuit, following visitation which starts at 10 a.m., also at the school. Original Story: Word surfaced Monday morning that Jim Goessling, a member of the 1973 state title basketball team at De Smet who went on to a career as a dealmaker in the world of sports and radio in St. Louis, died Sunday. De Smet Athletic Director John Stewart confirmed the news Monday. Goessling, who lived in Creve Coeur, had been fighting rectal colon cancer over the last few years. Candidates Discuss Government Spending and Debt During GOP Debate

Two Republican candidates vying for Claire McCaskill's seat in the U.S. Senate debated the issues Tuesday in West St. Louis County.

Between 30 and 40 people attended the KTRS-AM/St. Louis Beacon-sponsored GOP Senatorial debate Tuesday. Congressman Todd Akin and former Missouri State Treasurer Sarah Steelman participated in the event. Both politicos hope to unseat Sen. Claire McCaskill as Missouri’s senator. Absent from the event was John Brunner, a third candidate vying for the Republican nomination. Organizers invited Brunner to participate in the event, but he declined. They kept a space for him in case he decided to show. The debate was cordial for the most part—with a single moment of accusations between the two candidates at the end.
