Fourth Graders Help Bring Home A Varsity Basketball Win

The Ladue Lady Rams had dedicated supporters rooting them on Monday night.

There’s a very good reason why Reed School fourth grade teacher Karla Rigdon skipped grading papers and spent the evening cheering for the Ladue High Rams’ basketball team. A real simple reason for certain. Seems that star guard senior Kate Holloway is a Cadet teacher in her class. Ladue seniors get a chance to go into the classroom to see if a future in teaching might suit them. Frankly, Holloway adores her grade schoolers quite a bit. She put on the chalk board a schedule of home games in the new year. The students voted to attend Monday night’s game with the Summit Falcons. Ladue Declaws Affton 48-39 In First Round of Hancock Holiday Tournament

If you look in the box-score, you’d see that Ladue won over Affton in the first round of the Hancock girls holiday tournament 47-39. But, it was much, much closer than that. With 5:07 left in the game, the Lady Cougars held a momentary 32-31 lead, hacking away at an earlier 10-point deficit. Ladue’s coach Cord Dockery was not pleased. He held a fairly lengthy team meeting at the conclusion of the match in the Tiger Dome at Hancock. This is a tournament that last year saw the Rams run off three wins and head into January undefeated. A year ago, the Lady Rams ran off the first 20 wins of the season before falling to Whitfield.
