Martial Arts Instructor 'Refiring, Not Retiring'

The Midwest Martial Arts Academy typically closes its doors for the last week of the year. But when Charlie Foxman did it Saturday, he did so for the last time, after 26 years in business at the location just east of Interstate 270 on Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur. Foxman said the decision came within the last six months when the Drury Development Corporation, which owns the shopping center, approached him about a lease extension. Instead, he decided to make a change. "Now is the time I can enjoy what I do," he said by phone last week. That means spending with his grandchildren, volunteering, watching his first full Monday Night Football game in 26 years. But he's quick to say he's not retiring. He calls it "refiring." ATA Martial Arts will being opening for business within the week! We have been keeping touch with the students via phone..emails..and in person. We are extremely excited about this expansion of our family business! It should be an easy transition for the current students.
