Big Night Of Local Hoops Includes Doubleheader At MICDS, Ladue In Championship Game At CBC

Bombers' and Rams' boys and girls will begin the night with double-dip at McDonnell, while No. 7 Ladue hopes to play giant-killer against No. 2 CBC.

The first big night of the high school hoops season comes tonight, with a trio of big ballgames featuring some of the best teams from the Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette area. On a city-wide scale, most eyes will be trained on the championship game of the DC Wilcutt Tournament out at CBC High School in Town and Country, where the Ladue High boys will take on the No. 2-ranked CBC Cadets at 8 p.m. CBC was the area's preseason No. 1, with at least three top college prospects on their roster, including 6'7 swingman Jordan Barnett, 6'6 power forward Ray Doby, and 6'6 shooting guard Patrick McCaw. MICDS Boys Fall Just Short In Rally Attempt Against No. 6 Westminster Christian

After losing three close ballgames in the first three weeks of the season, MICDS boys basketball coach Matt Hixenbaugh felt like the win his Rams got at the buzzer on a trip to Nashville a couple weeks ago, might finally be the one to get the Rams over the hump. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way last Saturday evening, when MICDS hosted Westminster Christian Academy in the first round of the 2012 MICDS Boys Holiday Invitational Tournament. The Rams trailed from very early on, and fell behind by as many as 12 points at one juncture. But the tournament hosts nearly rallied all the way back, getting to within two points in the final seconds. But a clutch free throw by Westminster's Jack Dohr gave the No. 6-ranked Wildcats just enough …
