How Long Will You Wait to See An ER Doc Near Creve Coeur?

A new Medicare database shows how hospitals serving the region—and the rest of the nation—compare for care. The findings for our local hospitals serving Creve Coeur residents might surprise you.

Have a medical emergency? Plan to wait awhile—or not, depending on which hospital you pick. A new database from the federal government shows that residents of Creve Coeur probably will wait longer than average for emergency room care at one hospital and lower than the average at another. For our nearest emergency rooms—Mercy Hospital St. Louis and Barnes Jewish West County Hospital—the numbers compare very differently to the state average. At Barnes, the average wait for attention at an ER is 26 minutes, 10 minutes below the state average. At Mercy, however, the wait is nearly double the average. In our chart above, you can compare the two nearest hospitals for Creve Coeur Patch residents in key measures such as wait time to be seen in the…

Less serious folks would be left waiting when accident and fire victims are brought in, impacting their wait times. Barnes West evolved from an out-patient surgery and sport medicine facility, and maybe they have a good ER for Non-Trauma cases. But again, what …   more ›

St. Louis Cardinals Don't Expect Chris Carpenter To Return In 2013

The team announced Tuesday that the veteran pitcher is still dealing with effects of previous injury that sidelined him for most of 2012. Mercy doctors will likely be involved in evaluating what happens next.

The Mercy partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals as the team's official medical provider will get a high-profile start. The team announced Tuesday that Chris Carpenter, sidelined for most of the 2012 with thoracic outlet syndrome, will likely not pitch in 2013 after having trouble with offseason workouts. In a news conference broadcast on local media outlets, Cardinals VP and General Manager John Mozeliak announced that Carpenter would "utlize the Mercy network" among others in finding a way forward, after the player notified the team Friday that he was unable to throw at a high velocity after otherwise having had "a normal offseason," according to Mozeliak. Power Out Briefly At Mercy Hospital St. Louis Monday

A hospital spokeswoman said services were not interrupted at the Creve Coeur hospital.

Power was restored at Mercy Hospital St. Louis Monday morning following a brief outage. KSDK was first to report the news of the outage. The station reported that there were no evacuations but that elevators were not working. A spokeswoman told Patch the problem was resolved in roughly a half hour, after going down at 11 a.m. Generators kicked in and there was no disruption of services. The hospital system is no stranger to working in the dark. After hospital staff in Joplin remarkably evacuated the Mercy facility there due to the 2011 tornado which devastated the hospital, Patch was there with Mercy Hospital staff in Creve Coeur back in November 2011 for what's called Just In Time Training.

Santa Claus & His Police Pals Spread Christmas Cheer At Mercy Children's Hospital

Creve Coeur Police officers have joined forces with St. Nick in recent years to put smiles on the faces of patients and their families at Mercy Hospital St. Louis.

There was no need to consult NORAD's Santa Tracker Thursday about St. Nick's whereabots. All you needed to do was ask the Creve Coeur Police Department where the Elf-In-Chief could be found. Thursday afternoon, with several police officers in tow, Santa Claus went room to room at Mercy Children's Hospital in Creve Coeur, spreading holiday cheer to kids as young as 11 days old. Check out our photo gallery, featuring kids from Chesterfield, O'Fallon, Florissant, Clayton and Kirkwood, among others.
