Pattonville Mounts Second Half Comeback, Bests Whitfield

The Pirates overcame a 30 point effort from Justin Thomas.

The Pattonville Pirates overcame a 10 point second-half deficit to defeat the visting Whitfield Warriors 53-51 in a non-conference matchup in Maryland Heights Friday night. A close first half saw Pattonville take a 15-11 lead after the first quarter, only to see Whitfield take a 26-23 halftime edge, on the strength of senior guard Justin Thomas and his 14 first half points. Thomas, who finished with a game high 30, has been carrying the load for Whitfield after junior forward Dmitri Rucker suffered a season-ending knee injury vs. Ritenour December 14. The injury cut into the depth of an already-thin roster, which played roughly six deep at the start of the season, leaving Thomas to fill a scoring and leadership void on the court. "He's …

Whitfield Notches First Win: Warriors Will Look To Their 'Teddy Bear' This Season

The Warriors defeated the Bulldogs 69-41 in Whitfield's season-opening tournament.

Whitfield didn't get off to the start Warriors Head Coach Mike Potsou wanted Wednesday against Sumner, but his basketball team used a 10-0 run to start the second half and never looked back against the visiting Bulldogs in a 69-41 win. Junior Dmitri Rucker paced the Warriors with 32 points and 11 rebounds as Whitfield (1-1) converted errant Sumner shots on the defensive end into points on offense. "It's a good learning experience. I'm glad we're able to win and learn from it hopefully to understand that regardless of what time you play, who you play, where it is that you have to be ready to play high school basketball and get ready to compete," Potsou said.
