MoDOT: Watch, Slow Down For Spring Road Repairs

Missouri Department of Transportation reports St. Louis work zones for the week of April 15.

Missouri Department of Transportation workers will be busy the next few months with routine and seasonal tasks, such as pavement repairs and crack sealing. Motorists should watch for slow moving or stopped vehicles with flashing lights in traffic lanes on interstates and other busy roadways. MoDOT has scheduled evening closures of ramps on the Poplar Street Bridge next week so crews can complete preventative maintenance on the ramps, weather permitting.  The current schedule for ramp repairs is: Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

MoDOT Wrapping up 'Pothole Patrol'; Report Problem Spots Now

MoDOT promised to repair most potholes within 24 hours of them being reported, but the "Pothole Patrol" effort ends Sunday.

The Missouri Department of Transportation kicked off its "enhanced pothole repair initiative" last month and it's wrapping up Sunday, April 14. MoDOT promised road crews would repair a pothole with asphalt within 24 hours of it being reported on a weekday. Drivers should report potholes by calling 1-888-ASK-MoDOT, online at MoDOT.org or by emailing comments@modot.mo.gov. As the program wraps up, MoDOT stated in a news release that Director Dave Nichols issued a new challenge to field employees as the initiative comes to an end. “MoDOT makes every effort to surpass expectations in everything we do,” said Nichols in the news release. “While maintenance crews have done a great job so far, I have challenged them to speed up their response time…

Go! St. Louis Marathon to Close Several Highway 40 Ramps

MoDOT is warning St. Louis area drivers to expect ramp closures along Highway 40 this weekend.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports on St. Louis work zones for April 4-10. Several ramps on eastbound and westbound Interstate 64 will be closed Sunday in support of the Go! St. Louis marathon and half-marathon. The ramps from westbound I-64 to Forest Park Avenue, 3000 Market Street and 21st Street, as well as the ramp from eastbound I-64 to Market/Bernard will be closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The ramps from eastbound I-64 to Chestnut and 6th Street will be closed from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. In addition, Chouteau Avenue will be closed from 12th Street to Broadway from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Crews will close all lanes for about 15 minutes on northbound and southbound I-270 between I-64 and I-44 at 1 p.m. starting Wednesday, …

Volunteers Needed for MoDOT's 'No MOre Trash! Bash' Saturday

Join the Missouri Department of Transportation, community leaders and other volunteers to help pick up litter on Missouri roads.

Help make the St. Louis area a little cleaner this weekend. Join the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), community leaders and other volunteers for the department's annual "No MOre Trash! Bash" on April 6. MoDOT will supply participants with trash bags, safety vests, litter pickers and gloves and will guide volunteers along the routes while picking up litter. The goal of the event is to spread awareness of Missouri's litter problem and work toward a litter-free state. MoDOT Names Dave Nichols as New Director

MoDOT says Dave Nichols has served the department for more than 29 years. His appointment comes after Kevin Keith suddenly resigned from the position last month.

As previously reported by Patch, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced a change in leadership with the sudden resignation of MoDOT Director Kevin Keith in March who was taking medical leave immediately. At that time, it was announced that Chief Engineer Dave Nichols would serve as interim director. This week, MoDOT announced Nichols, who has been with the department for more than 29 years, has been selected as the new director. Easter Travel Alert: Highway 40 Closed This Weekend

The Missouri Department of Transportation warns drivers Highway 40 is closed this weekend, between Hampton Avenue and Forest Park Parkway.

During this holiday weekend, motorists need to be aware of two major impacts to traffic.   All lanes and ramps of Interstate 64 between Hampton and Forest Park avenues will be closed from Friday night until early Monday morning. In addition, westbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge will be reduced to only one lane open late Friday night until early Saturday morning. The detour for westbound I-64 will be to get off the interstate at the Forest Park Avenue exit (exit 38A) and follow Forest Park Avenue to Kingshighway. MoDOT Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary This Month

MoDOT celebrated one century of operation in March. How much do you know about the transportation department?

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced it's celebrating its 100th year anniversary this month. MoDOT released the following details of its creation in a news release. One hundred years ago, just after President Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated and as women campaigned for the right to vote, the Missouri General Assembly created the State Highway Department. Because on March 22, 1913, the precursor to today’s Missouri Department of Transportation came to be, Governor Jay Nixon recently issued a proclamation recognizing the 100thanniversary of the Missouri Department of Transportation.  “At that time, most road building equipment was mule-powered,” said MoDOT interim director Dave Nichols. “Today, our skilled crews and contractors …

Watch For Crews Reparing Potholes Around St. Louis

The Missouri Department of Transportation is asking drivers to pay attention and watch for road crews as it reports the St. Louis work zones for March 21-27.

It’s the season of pothole repairing and striping work for MoDOT crews and their multiple “moving” work zones. The work requires frequent short-term stops or reduced speed on busy interstates and roadways. MoDOT is promising to repair most potholes within 24-hours of them being reported. Drivers should report potholes by calling 1-888-ASK-MoDOT or online at MoDOT.org.  Motorists should be on the lookout for trucks and give them plenty of room to work. When motorists see orange signs, they are there for a reason - Slow down and be alert. Don’t Barrel Through Work Zones. Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

Head of MoDOT Resigns Suddenly

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced MoDOT Director Kevin Keith's resignation today. Effective immediately, Chief Engineer Dave Nichols will serve as interim director.

Thursday afternoon, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced a change in leadership with the sudden resignation of MoDOT Director Kevin Keith who is taking medical leave immediately. MoDOT released details of the change in the following news release. The Missouri Department of Transportation will see a change in leadership as MoDOT Director Kevin Keith steps down and Chief Engineer Dave Nichols assumes the role of interim director for the department. Keith has submitted his resignation and will leave his role effective immediately, taking a medical leave of absence with plans to retire on July 1, 2013. Nichols will step in as interim MoDOT director for a minimum of one year, according to Missouri Highways and Transportation …
