National Guard's 'Farmers With Guns' Unit Welcomed Home From Afghanistan By Monsanto

A pair of events Friday honored the Missouri National Guard Agricultural Development Team.

The majority of a Missouri National Guard squad which has seen members serving in Afghanistan since 2008 and which survived an insurgent attack in April has returned to American soil in recent weeks. The Missouri National Guard's Agricultural Development Team, which one member said was referred to by Afghan locals as the "Farmers With Guns" unit, was welcomed home by Monsanto Friday night in Creve Coeur. The group was to be recognized at a St. Charles concert featuring actor Gary Sinise's "Lt. Dan Band" later Friday night. The unit was charged with helping win the hearts and minds of Afghan farmers, who were using a farming approach from the early 1900s and were growing crops used to fund terroism. 'Occupy' Protests Hit Monsanto's Creve Coeur Headquarters

Non-violent actions call out Monsanto's opposition to California ballot measure pushing food labeling.

Planned worldwide protests of Monsanto came to the company's Creve Coeur headquarters Monday, as approximately 50 people demonstrated in front of the company's Olive Boulevard entrance near Warson Road. For more photos from the protest, check out Creve Coeur Patch on Facebook Unlike other protests worldwide which sought to disrupt company business and resulted in arrests, the gathering here Monday was calm by comparison. Creve Coeur Police officers were present, and protesters were notified that cars parked at Stacy Park in Olivette would be towed. Those in attendance were supportive of Proposition 37 in California, which is a November ballot initiative that if passed, would require the labeling of Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMOs. …

It's not appropriate to take words out of context. I was speaking about pesticides used, and an economic monopoly! Just keep killing the pests--and let it affect our health as well??? As our medical and health advice tells us it is most important to fill our plates with vegetables and fruit, the SAFETY of it was my concern! I was also speaking about hormones used in meats to keep it FRESH looking…   more ›

Stephen Colbert Asks Russ Carnahan: Are You A Genetically Modified Vegetable From Monsanto?

Candidate for the First Congressional district seat sits in the 'Colbert Report' hot seat.

Late night funny man Stephen Colbert has made a habit out of putting members of Congress in uncomfortable spots over the years in a regular segment on his satirical program, The Colbert Report. Thursday night, that segment featured U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis), who is locked in a redistricted primary with U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay in the 1st Congressional district. But Colbert began the Q & A focusing on Monsanto, the Creve Coeur agri-giant. Colbert asked if the company's headquarters were in his district (the new 1st), and Rep. Carnahan said it was. Click here to go to the Colbert Nation website to see the segment Under the new boundaries, the company's headquarters appear to be physically located in the new 2nd Congressional …

Monsanto Wins $1 Billion Verdict In Federal Court Against DuPont

The ruling is the latest in a series of cases between the Creve Coeur-based firm and DuPont.

A St. Louis federal court jury ruled in favor Creve Coeur-based Monsanto Wednesday, awarding a billion dollars in damages to the firm after determining that DuPont "had willfully infringed a patent covering Roundup Ready soybeans," The New York Times reported. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the case stemmed from Monsanto's contention that DuPont violated an earlier agreement between the two firms when it combined Roundup Ready with its own product Optimum GAT. DuPont vowed to appeal the verdict.   DuPont Statement “DuPont believes that the evidence presented during the trial demonstrated clearly that Monsanto’s Roundup Ready® soybean patent (RE 39,247) is invalid and unenforceable and that Monsanto intentionally deceived the …

Publication ranks Information Technology employers and finds the Creve Coeur firm tops when it comes to St. Louis-based companies.

A new ranking of "Best Places to" is out, and a Creve Coeur employer is getting some bragging rights out of it. Monsanto was listed as the 29th Best Place to Work in IT in 2012 by ComputerWorld. The publication looked at areas like an employer's budget for training, promotion and turnover rates and perks in assembling the top 100 employers. In the writeup for Monsanto, the publication credits the firm's "yearlong development program designed to help high-potential IT leaders enhance their leadership and interpersonal skills." The praise comes as the city of Creve Coeur is actively reaching out to Information Technology firms around the area. Creve Coeur Looking For Green Power Buy-in; Will You?

The EPA partnership got a boost locally when Mercy, the Koman Group and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center agreed to join the "Green Power Challenge".

Creve Coeur is now officially on its way to seeing if it can become the second city in the state of Missouri to be designated as a Green Power Community. City officials and community business leaders formally kicked off a campaign Wednesday at Mercy Hospital St. Louis that was approved by the city council in December.  The goal is to be able to offset 3 percent of all energy usage (business, government and residential), or a total of 1,523 megawatt hours by April 2013 with renewable energy sources, either by using solar panels or purchasing Renewable Energy Credits. Clayton became the first community to reach that benchmark in 2011. Mercy Hospital St. Louis, The Koman Group and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center were saluted …
