Offseason strength workouts at 6:15 a.m.? Check. Filling out his coaching staff? Working on it. Torrey said he has candidates in meeting with school administrators this week, including former head coaches at other area programs, with hiring expected in the next few weeks. De Smet varsity basketball coach Kevin Poelker confirmed Berry has made a verbal pledge to play at Butler University. The move was first reported by HighSchoolSports.net. Poelker said Berry made the decision in person Sunday during a trip to the Indianapolis campus after he also made a visit to Boston College. We talked with Berry this afternoon. He told Patch that the visit to meet Butler's players was a big factor in his being able to make a decision now, even saying that a month ago he couldn't have seen himself making a decision. He also said "I don't see him leaving," of Butler head coach Brad Stevens. Stevens has become a hot commodity in the coaching business off of the team's run in the NCAA …   more ›

Student-Athletes And Families Happy Recruiting Process Is Over

Creve Coeur area schools produced large number of college-bound football players.

Families around the St. Louis area have a huge collective load off their shoulders, and it has nothing to do with shoveling, or snow days. Wednesday was the first day high school seniors in a variety of sports, but primarily football, could sign their college letters of intent to play at the college level. College recruiters have been beating down a path to the Creve Coeur area for years, and this was no exception, as players from Chaminade, De Smet and Parkway North attracted attention from BCS conference programs from around the country. This year, there were no last-minute high profile defections of Creve Coeur products from one school to another. That's not from a lack of trying on the part of college coaches though. Christian Suntrup …
