One Year Until Pro Golf Returns To Bellerive

St. Louis Public Radio reports a club executive is on a fact-finding mission at this week's Senior PGA championship in Michigan.

One year from now, the eyes of the Senior PGA tour will be firmly focused on Bellerive Country Club, which will host the 2013 Senior PGA Championship. The 2012 version of the event is being contested this weekend in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Club General Manager Jeffery Kreafle is there taking notes, and as he told St. Louis Public Radio, trying to take lots of notes.  Club officials said last year when the PGA Tour announced the 2013 event and the 2018 PGA Championship would be played at Bellerive that they expected the course to essentially remain as-is for next year. As of earlier this month, a spokesman for the state department of Economic Development told Patch that an economic impact study for the events had not yet been completed. …

Bellerive To Get The Major Treatment

PGA Tournaments could bring $100 million to the St. Louis area and the state.

In a little more than two years, professional golf will return to West St. Louis County. Friday, local and state political leaders along Bellerive Country Club officials celebrated the news that the PGA Tour has awarded the Town and Country club host duties for the 2013 Senior PGA Tour Championship, to be played May 21-26 2013, and the PGA Tour Championship in August, 2018. "The reason we selected Bellerive was its great grand tradition, but also its approach to serving the needs of its community, and working in tandem with STL and with the state on the priorities that our nation, states and cities face today." Town and Country- After a few weeks of speculation, the official announcement was delivered Friday afternoon. Bellerive Country Club, sitting on the border with Creve Coeur, will be hosting pro golf for the first time since 2008. The PGA Tour announced that the 2013 Senior PGA Championship and the 2018 PGA Championship would be held at the club. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, Tour officials and others, including St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith were on hand for the announcement. Announcement Planned For Friday At Bellerive Country Club

Club reportedly has been in pursuit of pro golf tournaments.

Governor Jay Nixon and other dignitaries will be in Creve Coeur Friday for what the St. Louis Sports Commission calls "A special sports announcement from Bellerive Country Club with significant impact on the State of Missouri, the St. Louis region, and the area sports and business community." Calls to the Commission, the Governor's office and the club seeking comment were not immediately returned. Last week, reports surfaced about the club's interest in hosting the 2013 Senior PGA Championship as well as the 2018 PGA Championship. Creve Coeur Mayor Harold Dielmann is among those dignitaries invited to attend Friday's festivities. Could PGA Tour Pros Come Back To Creve Coeur?

Bellerive Country Club reportedly in the running for PGA Championship tournaments.

Bellerive Country Club last hosted a PGA Tour event in 2008, and the Creve Coeur course could once again be back in the swing of hosting more in coming years. A PGA of America spokesperson tells Patch that Senior PGA Championships have been awarded to a Michigan club in 2012 and 2014, and that PGA Championship sites have been selected through 2017. He declined to identify Bellerive as a bidder for the events, or commit to a timeline on when a decision might be reached. A call seeking comment from Bellerive has not been returned.
