Parkway North Grad Johnson Impresses In First Kansas State Game Action

The forward scored 10 points off the bench in an exhibition game Tuesday night.

He goes by DJ, now, as opposed to Darrell, but regardless, DJ Johnson appears to have gone from being a redshirt candidate in his freshman season on the Kansas State Wildcat basketball program to being a factor now. Johnson, the 2012 Parkway North graduate, saw action Tuesday in an 81-61 exhibition win against Washburn, netting 10 points and 7 rebounds in 17 minutes on the floor. "He’s pushing everybody," new Kansas State Head Basketball Coach Bruce Weber told reporters after the game. "I’m not sure he always knows what he’s doing, but he plays hard all the time." Parkway North Wins District Over De Smet With Hot-Shooting Guards

The Parkway North guards out-shoot De Smet, as Viking standout Darrell Johnson is held to 12.

Parkway North’s hot-shooting guards came through to put down top-seeded, defending Class 5 District 4 champs, De Smet. The No. 2 seed Vikings downed the Spartans 57-46 to claim the district title Friday night at Parkway Central. Viking junior guard Aaron Hines was game-high with 19 points, and sophomore Edin Bracic had 10. They came through when 6-8 Viking forward Darrell Johnson was kept in check by De Smet’s big forwards. “The difference was our guards,” Johnson said. “They shot well. We worked the offense. We played together a lot.” De Smet senior Eric Moeller (6-11) and junior Nolan Berry (6-8) kept Johnson to four points in the first half.
