The Pirates head for a rematch with Hazelwood Central in the state soccer playoffs Tuesday.
In the games Pattonville High School's girls soccer team has lost this season, the team and the Pirates' head coach came to a conclusion. While it may sound cliche, they weren't coming out ready to play. "We all kind of sat down, we had a talk, that was one of the things we needed to fix, and looks like we fixed it," coach Tom Iffrig said Friday night, after Pattonville defeated Parkway Central 3-0 to take home the school's fifth straight district title. Hitting the field ready to play meant winning the first five minutes of the game and Pattonville did just that. Iffrig told his club afterward that the team was on fire. "We came out and misjudged the first ball that came to our backs and let 22 (Ashanti Carey) get in behind us," Parkway …

Barring an incredible upset, the De Smet High School football team should dispose of Pattonville High School and advance to the next round of the Missouri State High School football playoffs.
The Pattonville High School football team didn't get its first win of the 2012 season until its eighth game. Barring an incredible upset, it likely won't get a second. Pattonville is set to open it's playoff campaign on the road against the heavily favored De Smet Spartans. De Smet enters the game with perhaps the best running back combos (Taylor O'Brien and Marcus Jester) in the state and one of the best defensive players (Donnie White) in the entire state. The O'Brien-Jester duo rushed for nearly 2,000 yards this season and accounted for more than half of the Spartans' scoring. Meanwhile, Donnie White, the 6-foot-2, 220 pound defensive end has wreaked havoc on offensive backfields all season, producing 11 sacks, 13 tackles-for-a-loss and…

In the new Missouri system, every team has a shot at a state title. Here's when teams with Creve Coeur ties play, starting Thursday.
High school football coaches have been busy cramming about prospective opponents over the weekend. They left the field Friday and Saturday afternoon, still not quite sure who they'd be playing this week in the new state football playoff system that now includes the "district system" used in other sports, with seeding thanks to a point differential that made every score count. Saturday evening, that schedule was released. Here's how it all will start shaking out: Thursday Friday You can search the entire playoff bracket by going to the Missouri State High School Activities Association website. If you had to pick one Creve Coeur game to have Patch cover Friday, which one would it be? Your passion could help tilt the scales on our decision!

De Smet, Parkway North and Priory among those teams impacted by rain, hail and thunderstorms Friday night.
"You can't fool Mother Nature," one high school football official said Friday evening. "Mother Nature's in control." That unnamed official was speaking not from the sidelines of Friday's John Burroughs-St Louis Priory matchup, but from the confines of the Science Building of the Burroughs campus, minutes after severe weather suspended the game at 5:15 p.m. The Bombers were up on the Rebels 35-0 in the second quarter, thanks to 3 TDs by Ezekiel Elliott Watch: Rain, Hail and Thunder interrupts Priory/Burroughs matchup The game will resume Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Many games which were supposed to kick off later Friday at 7 p.m. never began. Parkway Central waited out the weather and started after 8 p.m. The Colts' homecoming tilt against …

Next Tuesday, Ladue and Pattonville School district voters will decide who will serve on the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees for Subdistrict 1.
On Tuesday, Creve Coeur voters will be among many in St. Louis County to decide the next St. Louis Community College (SLCC) Board of Trustee representative for Subdistrict 1. Theodis Brown, Daryl Cothran, Doris A. Graham and Philip E. Smith are each vying for the opportunity to represent the district. Subdistrict 1 includes the Hazelwood, Ferguson-Florissant, Riverview Gardens, Jennings, Pattonville, Ritenour, University City, Normandy, Clayton and Ladue school districts. Incumbent and Rep. Margo McNeil (D-Florissant) holds the seat and decided to not seek re-election. Earlier this month, three of the four candidates spoke at a Democratic Club meeting held in Florissant. Brown did not attend the meeting. Doris Graham, who served on the …

Chaminade has won the school's Christmas tournament each year since 2007.
Chaminade Junior Guard Andy Kleinlein hit for 15 points Thursday night to lead the host Red Devils past Pattonville 37-31 to end round robin play in the Creve Coeur school's annual Christmas Tournament. Chaminade advances to Friday's championship game at 7 p.m. against John Burroughs. As the score might indicate, it was a low-scoring affair at the Athletictron. Chaminade led 19-15 at the half, giving up only three Pirate points in the second quarter but only scoring six of its own. The Pirates stayed in the game with timely three-point shooting and a pressing defense. Pattonville was led by Senior Guard Kavon Harvey with 14 points. John Burroughs advanced by defeating Parkway Central 46-41 in the late game Thursday. Chaminade has claimed …

Pirates prevail against Spartans in Class 6, District 5 contest.
After the final whistle had been blown at Don Muench Memorial Stadium two teams headed in opposite directions. In one corner of the field the Pattonville Pirates danced and yelled. A common chant among the players was simply "playoffs." In a Class 6, District 5 game, the Pirates had knocked off the Francis Howell Central Spartans 21-7 to improve to 2-0 in Districts—guaranteeing a spot in the postseason. "It's really big for us," Pattonville head coach Steve Smith said. "We have a lot of young guys and they get to experience the playoffs, regardless of what happens in the future. These guys have opportunity to play in the playoffs and see what it is about. They have a chance to go do some things." While the Pirates celebrated, the Spartans…
Webster Groves travels to Parkway Central for one of the better matchups in the state.
We're entering a critical weekend on the high school football scene as some games add up to elimination contests for state title hopes. Others, like the Suburban South Conference matchup between rivals Webster Groves and Parkway Central feature two teams most likely playoff-bound. But only one team can claim the district championship and the subsequent first-round home playoff game, so both the Colts and the Statesmen are expected to treat Friday’s contest like it is the biggest game of the year. Unbeaten Webster Groves might be the best team in the state, with an offense that averages 43.6 points/game, a defense that allows 11.3 points per game, and a No. 2 overall state ranking in Class 5. The 2011 Statesmen are a balanced squad, led by…
