Four candidates are seeking two seats on the Pattonville Board of Education.
As April 2 approaches, Creve Coeur Patch wants to ensure voters are as informed as they can be when headed to the polls. In the Pattonville School District, there are four candidates running for two seats for the board of education, including two incumbents. We have short biographical information on each of the candidates. Just click on each link to get information on each one. Editor’s Note: Patch sent out identical questionnaires to each candidate and gave each the same amount of time to reply. Candidate Andrew Ostrowski was the only response we received. St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman last week released preliminary real property values for most properties in St. Louis County. The values reflect continuing declines for many properties: the median residential property is down 7.0 percent, while many properties in areas with high levels of foreclosure sales are down 12 percent or more. In Creve Coeur, an overview of the value of residential property depends on which school district you live in, but in all three cases, average property values declined. Residents in the Ladue School District saw the smallest decline, a drop of 0.7 percent. Parkway residents saw a decline of 4 percent in average residential property values, compared to an average decline of 6.3 in Pattonville area home…

The audit committee will present the prepared audit report for the board's approval.
The Pattonville Board of Education will hear the district’s financial committee audit for the 2011-2012 school year Tuesday night. The audit, prepared by accounting firm Schowalter and Jabouri, looked at the district’s financial and internal control matters and provided written reports for the committee and board. The board will be allowed to ask questions of the report and approve the final report. To view the full agenda, check out the Pattonville School District website. District administrators are forecasting financial hits on programs from child nutrition to special education.
West St. Louis Country area school districts are crunching the numbers and trying to determine what mandated federal budget cuts would mean if they go into effect starting Friday as part of the so-called "sequestration process." The White House released a state-by-state projection saying "Missouri will lose about $11.9 million in funding for primary and secondary education, putting around 160 teacher and aide jobs at risk. In addition, about 17,000 fewer students would be served and about 60 fewer schools would receive funding." The Special School District, which serves students with special needs from nearly every district in St. Louis County, would see cuts to funding from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or IDEA. …

Erin Collier and Katie Mertz signed letters of intent Wednesday.
The following information was provided by the Pattonville School District: Two Pattonville High School seniors signed letters of intent on Feb. 6 to play college-level women's soccer after they graduate this spring. Erin Collier signed a letter of intent to play soccer on scholarship at Southwestern Illinois College, and Katie Mertz signed to play at Maryville University. Both girls have been on Pattonville's varsity soccer team since they were freshmen, playing on two conference championship teams and three district championship teams. Their team finished second in the state in 2010. The 2012 team ended its season with a 21-6 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals. Pattonville elementary school students participated in a day-long safety program in October and received the helmets this month.
The following information was provided by the Pattonville School District community relations department: Fourth-graders from Bridgeway and Willow Brook elementary schools who took part in a day of safety-related activities earlier this school year recently received free bike helmets as a follow-up to what they learned that day. Pattonville students took part in safety training through the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day on Oct. 10. Held at Willow Brook, the program was a full-day event designed for students to learn safety and health lessons that they can use every day while at home and school, or even camping or on a farm or ranch.
