Former De Smet Spartan is looking forward to joining the Nittany Lion program despite the hurdles brought onto the University following the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
David Goodwin helped bring a state high school hockey championship to De Smet Jesuit in 2010, and starting in the fall of 2013, he's excited about being part of a program competitng for a college crown. Earlier this year he committed to play for Penn State, which is making the leap to Division I in 2013. Goodwin said in email interview with Patch Monday that it has been tough hearing the news coming out of the school, which has seen its legendary football program rocked by the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal, but that he remainds committed to the school. Mizzou football coach Gary Pinkel defended Joe Paterno and called him a great man during his SEC media day availability. What do you think of his remarks?
Remarks that University of Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel made defending the now disgraced Penn State football coach Joe Paterno have at least one Missouri lawmaker at arms. Pinkel, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, called Paterno a "great man." That comment came just days after an investigative report concluded that top Penn State officials, including Paterno, had for more than a decade known of child sexual abuse allegations made against Jerry Sandusky and said nothing. Creve Coeur Police have referred one of the cases to St. Charles County authorities.
Creve Coeur Police confirmed Thursday that 11 people have now come forward with allegations of abuse against a former De Smet teacher and coach. The school notified alumni last week after an allegation was recently brought forward to authorities. Police investigated the case and forwarded it to the St. Louis County Prosecutor, but found that the statute of limitations had expired. The teacher in question worked at the school from 1970 to 1979. Creve Coeur Police have forwarded one of the victims cases to St. Charles County authorities and are still encouraging people to speak up.
