Say Goodbye To Reuther Automotive Friday

The longtime Creve Coeur auto dealer will hold an open house on the last day in business.

A fixture in Creve Coeur for decades, more than six in fact, will be closing up shop at the end of the day Friday. Reuther Automotive Group is making way for a Plaza Motors Jaguar/Land Rover dealership approved recently by Creve Coeur's City Council. From September: Reuther Automotive To Close Next Month To Make Way For Jaguar/LandRover Dealer On the company's Facebook page earlier this month, Reuther wrote: "Lot's of emotions going on but very thankful for the years of patronage and support of customers, friends and family. We will still have the Body Shop open and now will be doing service repairs there as well, and the Ford Store will remain open as well. " The business will host an open house, with refreshments, beginning Friday …

Plaza Motors Plan For Reuther Property Advances With Questions From Council

The proposal for a Jaguar/Land Rover dealership on Olive Boulevard received first reading by city lawmakers this week.

Ham and cars. A plan to relocate Plaza Motors' Jaguar and Land Rover operations in a standalone dealership on the site of the current Reuther Automotive Group received a first reading before Ceve Coeur City Council members Monday. The proposal received Planning and Zoning Commission approval, despite concerns from a neighboring property owner who believed that the reliance on Ham Avenue nearby violated the neighbor's property rights. Monday, both Plaza's representatives and the neighboring property owner, David Lange, confirmed that Ham Avenue is a private driveway, but that a summary court judgment gives Milbrandt Lawn Equipment, and whoever owns the Reuther property, access to Ham Avenue. Plaza backers said they could also potentially …

City Panel OK's Jaguar Plan Despite Neighboring Property Owner

Plaza Motors' request to build a Jaguar/Land Rover dealership will now be considered by the Creve Coeur City Council Monday.

When is a street a street, or an avenue really an avenue? That question was part of the debate Tuesday night as the Creve Coeur Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing to consider a request by Plaza Motors for a Conditional Use Permit to take over property currently held by Reuther Automotive and to build a Jaguar and Land Rover dealership. David Lange, a neighboring property owner, rose in objection to the plan because it relies on right-of-way on Ham Avenue to the rear of the Olive Boulevard property. "It's our driveway," Lange told Commission members of Ham Avenue, saying he had proof that he owned the street. He also voiced concern about how traffic on the site would impact his property. Creve Coeur's Director of Community…

Public Hearing Tuesday: Jaguar Plans Getting Creve Coeur Review

Plaza Motors wants to locate new Jaguar/Land Rover dealership on Olive Boulevard.

Creve Coeur residents and anyone else interested in Plaza Motors' plans to put a Jaguar and Land Rover operation on the current site of Reuther Automotive will get their chance in a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday night. Plaza's other dealership a few blocks west on Olive Boulevard would remain. The Reuther property at 11654 Olive has been on the market for some time since it lost its status as a Chrysler dealership. The property has been seen as an attractive piece of land as the city pursues a long term vision of a "downtown development" plan. According to city leaders, Target has kicked the tires on the property but hasn't been able to cobble enough land together to make it work. A spokesperson for Asbury Motors, Plaza's parent …

Plaza Motors Has Designs On Reuther Auto Property

Should a prime location on Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur remain in an automotive environment or would retail be better?

Plaza Motor Company's acquisition of a Jaguar franchise has the dealership's Georgia-based parent, Asbury Motors, on the prowl for more property in Creve Coeur. The firm has begun filing plans with the city for a 36,000 square-foot showroom for Jaguar and Land Rover at 11654 Olive Boulevard, the current home of Reuther Automotive. City staff has been working with Plaza officials on revisions to the proposal. Initially the site development plan was to be considered by Creve Coeur Planning and Zoning officials later this month. It is now slated for the September 4, 2012 agenda. The Reuther family has been open to a sale of the property since losing a Chrysler dealership during the economic crisis that beset the automobile industry in 2008. …

The last time I checked, this was private property. So long as the proposal complies with reasonable zoning restrictions, the Reuthers and Plaza should be able to develop it any way they want. The Reuther family and Plaza Motors have been great Creve Coeur assets. I am confident that Plaza's proposal will be first class. If some other folks think something else should be done with that location, …   more ›

Off The Beaten Patch

Arbitration Revs Up Against Creve Coeur Auto Dealership

In this week's "Off the Beaten Patch" age discrimination arbitration arrives for Plaza Motors, a Brown Shoe executive faces a suit, and a top cop gets called back to the beat.

Former Plaza Motors general sales manager for Lexus Jack Hisserich and former Plaza Lexus business manager Larry Pohlman are in arbitration with the leading luxury car dealer in the area concerning alleged age discrimination.  Hisserich is now the general sales manager for Parktown Imports in Kirkwood. He filed an age discrimination suit in May of 2010 and Pohlman filed in October of 2010.  Plaza, Hisserich, and Pohlman have agreed to leave the remedy in the hands of an arbitrator. Hisserich, 60, began working for the Creve Coeur dealership in 1990 and managed all Lexus sales and 15 employees during his five-years as general manager of Lexus at Plaza.  He was fired in 2009 after Plaza general manager John Stamm promoted Victor Austin to …
