Priory Getting A New Headmaster In The Fall

Father Michael Brunner will become Pastor of St. Anselm Church.

There will be a new monk in charge at St. Louis Priory School in time for the next school year. A Priory spokeswoman confirmed that Father Michael Brunner, who has been Headmaster at the Creve Coeur school for the past seven years, will leave the position in June but not the Abbey campus. Effective November 1, he will become Pastor at St. Anselm Church. In a letter to the school community which went out last week, the Abbott Thomas Frerking said Rev. Brunner would be succeeded by Rev. Linus Dolce. The letter said under Rev. Brunner, "the School has further developed its rigorous academic program and has had great success in college admissions results, and has also been enhanced by international exchange programs and by a strong peer …

Devaney: Los Angeles, Tebow & The Draft

Former Rams GM spoke to Priory audience over the weekend.

Former St. Louis Rams General Manager Billy Devaney was the guest speaker at Priory's annual Father-Son Banquet Saturday night. During a 40-minute talk and subsequent question and answer session, he spoke about how past challenges have turned into opportunities, both at home and in the sports world. He also touched on several other topics of interest:     "Sam Bradford," he said as the audience laughed and applauded. Second best? "Whatever team I'm going to." "They're in a good spot." Devaney said the team attempted to move up and draft Alabam Wide Receiver Julio Jones last April, but was thwarted when the Atlanta Falcons "gave up the farm" to get in position. Without naming names, as some candidates, including Oklahoma State Wide Receiver…

The Week Ahead In Creve Coeur

The Week Ahead: Political Debate, Celebrating Soccer and Thanksgiving

A look at what we're following here on Creve Coeur Patch this week and where you can find it.

This is one of those weird weeks on the calendar. There is work to be done, but you're lying if you say you're not thinking at least a little bit about Thursday or Friday, or possibly both. Who could blame you, with, Thanksgiving providing opportunity to break bread with those important to you, and Friday with all those "Black Friday" deals and the Small Business Saturday opportunities following on the day after. If you're still looking at options for how to cook your turkey, look here and here for some suggestions. If you're a retailer with special hours this weekend, you'll want to post an announcement to tell your customers. And if you're waiting until this week to officially get into the holiday spirit, may I humbly suggest you take a …

Another Win, Another Shutout for Soccer Rebels

Priory blanks MICDS 5-0 Wednesday in a Metro League contest at MICDS.

The Priory soccer team has played 11 games this season. The Rebels have won them all and have given up just one goal all season. They recorded their 10th shutout of 2011 Wednesday in a convincing 5-0 Metro League victory over MICDS. "We are strong all over the field and everybody defends," Priory coach John Mohrmann said of the key to the tremendous defensive record. "It keeps the pressure off the backs and the keeper." Rebel senior sweeper Kyle Martin is often without a lot of work during a game. "There are times that 20 or 25 minutes go by and I don't touch the ball," said Martin, who has started on varsity since he was a freshman. "Our motto this year is "fierce" and that is the way we play defensively from the forwards all the way to …

Priory Rebels Look To Get In Win Column Against Affton Friday

The team is coming off a close loss to Windsor last week.

Two teams looking for their first win in 2011 will face off in Affton Friday night, as the Priory Rebels head for south county to challenge the Cougars. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Priory is coming off a close 29-27 loss to the Windsor Owls (Imperial, MO). Affton fell to Union 48-7. Head coach Marty Combs of the Rebels said, "We have only two returning starters this year. Wide-receiver/free safety Seve Esparrago (senior) and Sam Friedman (junior), who performs well both at left guard and inside linebacker. "Our team is young and lacks game-tested experience. But what they lack in experience, they more than make up in heart and determination. We made some great plays last week against Windsor, but we need more consistency." The home team is …

The Week Ahead In Creve Coeur

The Week Ahead: Back To School

Kids are getting back to the books this week in Creve Coeur.

The calendar may say we're still in summer, but local schools know the vacation part of it all is just about up. While teachers and some students have been busy for days now on orientation, fall sports practices and other activities, it starts counting for real this week in the classroom. Monday is the first day of school for Pattonville and Ladue Schools, meaning streets and neighborhoods in Creve Coeur around Spoede School and Willow Brook Elementary will be busy with activity. Tuesday, Parkway Schools are back in session, with new start times this year, too. De Smet goes back to business on Thursday and Chaminade follows on Friday, while Whitfield and Priory hold out until later this month. In case you missed it, we've posted the school…

Memorial Day Week Ahead At Creve Coeur Patch

We pause to remember those who sacrificed for our country, we salute our graduates, and get ready for summer.

The calendar may say summer doesn't begin for another three weeks, but this week will certainly start to feel a little more like it, for a variety of reasons. First things first. Monday is Memorial Day, when we remember the sacrifices made by those men and women who have fought and died defending our freedom. We'll take you to Jefferson Barracks, where Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from around the area worked over the weekend to prepare the National Cemetery for what is always a special day. We'd also encourage you to check out the final full day of competition Monday at the St. Louis Senior Olympics, with events being held at the Jewish Community Center, Willow Brook Elementary School and other Creve Coeur venues. The Memorial Day holiday …

Priory to Hold Bone Marrow Registry Drive

Drive will find potential donors for cancer patients.

St. Louis Priory School will hold a Bone Marrow Registry drive on Saturday, April 2nd from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The event will allow those interested to get registered on the Be the Match registry, which matches potential bone marrow donors to cancer patients in need of a transplant. The mothers’ club at the school thought holding a registry drive would be a good idea after two members of the Priory community were diagnosed with leukemia in recent years. A Priory senior, Paul Andrew (Andy) Streiff, was diagnosed in his junior year and fortunately did not require a marrow transplant. Andy is now in remission and doing well. Diana Hartnett,  an administrator at the school also developed leukemia. She found a match on the registry and …
