Recap Live Soccer Chat: High School vs. Academy Soccer

What questions do you have about a new training schedule mapped out by U.S. Soccer officials which would steer some players away from high school competition?

What price do you pay for playing soccer at a level which could lead to a college scholarship, playing professionally, and possibly playing to represent your country? Starting this fall, it could mean the opportunity to play for your high school. Earlier this month, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy announced a move that could alter the landscape of high school soccer programs around the country. The Creve Coeur Patch Sports Year In Review

Nationwide attention for high school basketball, and prolific years for local wideouts were among the stories which dominated the sports headlines in 2011.

As 2011 draws to a close, Creve Coeur Patch is taking a look back at some of the biggest stories of the year in a variety of categories, and we want to know what you think, too. Here are three we picked out, in no particular order: Bradley Beal's Senior Season The Chaminade standout brought a close to one of the most storied high school basketball careers in St. Louis basketball history with a senior season filled with accolades and nationwide attention. He led the Red Devils to the state quarterfinals, averaging 32.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Normally, "all-everything" is little more than a lazy writer's platitude, but in this case, Beal literally fit the bill. He was the Gatorade Basketball Player of the …

State Soccer: Priory Advances, Chaminade Falls

Creve Coeur area teams face different fates in state sectional playoffs.

With state sectional play complete, two Creve Coeur soccer squads in two classes are still alive in the race for a state title. The Priory Rebels (24-0), who have marched to No. 16 in ESPN's national Powerade Fab 50 rankings, continued their remarkable run through the 2011 soccer campaign Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over St. Francis Borgia (16-6) in Class 2. The Rebels will host St. Dominic (17-9-1) Saturday at 1 p.m. The Chaminade Red Devils (19-6-3) fell in Class 3 play Wednesday 1-0 to the Francis Howell Vikings (21-4), who will advance to face De Smet (22-4-1) at De Smet Saturday. The Spartans find themselves ranked No. 29 in the same ESPN poll.

State Soccer Set For Wednesday

Weather conditions delayed showdowns for Chaminade and Priory.

The rain which forced Tuesday's state soccer playoff matches for Chaminade and Priory should not be a factor on Wednesday, but gusty winds could be another story. Here's how the schedule stands: Francis Howell vs. Chaminade at Chaminade 2:30 p.m. Borgia vs. Priory at Priory 4 p.m. De Smet advanced Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Jackson, and will host the Francis Howell/Chaminade winner Saturday.
