Participate 2012: Carnahan Opts For Clay Challenge

Tuesday's opening of filing for state and congressional races draws out candidates.

U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan ended months of speculation Tuesday by formally filing to run in the newly-redrawn first congressional district, setting up a primary fight against incumbent Rep. William Lacy Clay. Carnahan had to decide whether to run in the first, or in the redrawn second district, which now includes Creve Coeur, after the redistricting process drew his third district into extinction. The Missouri Supreme Court has yet to rule on challenges to those maps, as well as newly redrawn State Senate boundaries. According to KMOX, Carnahan has not ruled out the possibility of refiling once the courts rule. As of this writing, political unknowns George Weber (Democrat) and John Morris (Republican) have filed for the second district seat…

Did the Wagner Campaign Forget It Has a Primary Opponent?

In a recent email to Washington, DC, lobbyists, a fundraising worker for the campaign left out the fact that the Wagner has a little GOP competition in the race for the 2nd District seat for Congress.

According to her primary opponent, Randy Jotte, it seems Ann Wagner's campaign forgot she has an opponent in the primary — an oversight the campaign acknowledged, blaming a fundraising worker in Washington, DC. Jotte, of Webster Groves, forwarded Patch a Feb. 8 email from one of Wagner's campaign team members regarding Wagner's upcoming visit to Washington, D.C. The email reads in part: I wanted to see if you are available to help Ann Wagner out on her next trip to DC – we have a few events as well as 1-1 coffee times available. Her primary opponent got out of the race last month and along with her excellent fundraising numbers from last quarter has put Ann in a great spot to win this seat for MO-02. She has over $1 million cash on hand …

Huckabee, Wagner Woo Supporters

The former presidential candidate said Congressional-hopeful Ann Wagner of Ballwin comes from "a family that has lived the values we talk about."

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee tapped core conservative issues in his endorsement of Congressional candidate and Ballwin resident Ann Wagner on Thursday, rallying supporters in advance of Republican primaries in August. In a speech that touched on issues ranging from the cost of gasoline to the curricula of public schools, Huckabee praised Wagner’s political and personal life. “This is a family that has lived the values we talk about,” Huckabee said. “If you can manage a household, if you can manage a small business, if you can serve in capacities as she has … you have a really good understanding of the full-scope of America.” Huckabee said the endorsement was likely to be one of less than a dozen Congressional races nationwide that the former …

Participate 2012: Martin Bows Out of Congressional Race

Martin to challenge Chris Koster for Missouri Attorney General.

Two days after a Webster Groves doctor made the 2nd Congressional district Republican primary a three candidate race, the contest is back down to two in the running. Thursday morning, St. Louis attorney Ed Martin announced he would drop out of the GOP primary for Congress and instead challenge Chris Koster to become the state's top lawyer. Feeding off of his near-victory against Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis) in 2010, Martin had support in his bid to succeed Rep. Todd Akin (R-Wildwood), but has lagged considerably in fundraising compared to former RNC Co-Chair Ann Wagner, who has also lined up endorsements from national Republican figures, including John Ashcroft, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Former Arkansas Governor and …
