When Will They Tear Down The Old Reuther Building?

Plaza Motor Company is getting ready to start work to relocate a Jaguar and Land Rover dealership to the Olive Boulevard property in Creve Coeur.

Demolition crews could begin work to take down the former Reuther Automotive building on Olive Boulevard as soon as Monday, an executive with Plaza Motor Company told Patch Wednesday. Plaza Motors gained city approval last year to move the luxury car dealer's Jaguar and Land Rover lines to a new facility across from CityPlace. Jerry Patterson told Patch that asbestos was removed from the site three weeks ago and that Reuther will still need to handle environmental soil tests on the site. Construction on the facility could begin in 2-3 weeks, he said. In the meantime, crews from the Creve Coeur Fire Protection District have been on the property recently, but not for anything related to the project. Crews have been taking advantage of the …

The Year In Business: Potbelly Comes, Reuther Goes; What's Your Top Story?

Patch counts down the top business stories impacting Creve Coeur in 2012.

You definitely were interested in business stories impacting Creve Coeur this year, from new stores and restaurants opening, to longtime staples and large employers which closed their doors.  Here are some of the stories which caught our eye and yours in 2012, in no particular order: Potbelly Comes To Town: In January, Patch was first to break news of the the popular sandwich chain's interest in Creve Coeur, and in August, the location at CityPlace in the former Provisions Market, opened its doors.  The Creve Coeur spot is the only St. Louis location for the Chicago-based chain. Ray's Donuts Opens: Once city leaders allowed for commercial bakeries to operate in the area, the stage was set for Ray's Donuts, which had been in Olivette, to …

Reuther Automotive To Close Next Month To Make Way For Jaguar/LandRover Dealer

The Creve Coeur City Council approved the Plaza Motors development plan Monday night.

Creve Coeur's City Council this week gave final approval to the plan brought by Plaza Motors to build a new Jaguar and Land Rover dealership on the site of the Reuther Automotive property on Olive Boulevard. Approval came after councilmembers scuttled an amendment that could have killed the deal. Part of city staff's argument for supporting the project, despite the fact that as an automotive use it may not ideally fit long-term planning goals for building out a "downtown" district, is that Plaza Motors agreed to donate part of the right-of-way along Ham Avenue, which the city could use down the road to expand and utilize what many would consider now is a glorified private driveway. Part of that longer term vision also includes an …

Public Hearing Tuesday: Jaguar Plans Getting Creve Coeur Review

Plaza Motors wants to locate new Jaguar/Land Rover dealership on Olive Boulevard.

Creve Coeur residents and anyone else interested in Plaza Motors' plans to put a Jaguar and Land Rover operation on the current site of Reuther Automotive will get their chance in a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday night. Plaza's other dealership a few blocks west on Olive Boulevard would remain. The Reuther property at 11654 Olive has been on the market for some time since it lost its status as a Chrysler dealership. The property has been seen as an attractive piece of land as the city pursues a long term vision of a "downtown development" plan. According to city leaders, Target has kicked the tires on the property but hasn't been able to cobble enough land together to make it work. A spokesperson for Asbury Motors, Plaza's parent …
