Experts Answer Questions on Sexual Assault after Teacher Rape Incident
St. Louis' top experts on sexual violence have a lot to say after news broke that a former local teacher was charged with rape involving students.
It seems like some terrible child sexual abuse stories have been in the news a lot lately. Here in the St. Louis area, Patch has been covering the ex-teacher who turned himself in, confessing that he raped students. Authorities said the man confessed because he believed the crimes happened so long ago that he couldn’t be prosecuted for them. (He was wrong.) Patch has been able to cofirm that the teacher in this case did not work for the Parkway or Pattonville School districts. In Creve Coeur specifically, De Smet Jesuit and Chaminade have had to deal with allegations that former staff members may have victimized students in incidents stemming back decades. I attended Chaminade from 1969 through 1975. I was in Meinhardt's Latin and typing classes. I got hugged and roughed up by him in front of class for not doing my homework as did many others. No sexual abuse. I believe this man's repressed memory is playing tricks on him after all these years.
