I don't see the benefit of two separate checking accounts, just more fees for the bank and more work for you and your partner. As for the phone - sounds to me like more of an expense again. Even if Charter doesn't charge a fee for this, if you're using a cell as a business phone why would you want it to ring to your home? In my experience, most people answer a home phone with "hello" which, by …   more ›
No, there's not a catch. SCORE's experienced mentors will help you take your business to the next level.
When it comes down to it, behind just about every small business is an entrepreneur hoping to turn their passion into a paycheck. The partnership makes sense because we believe that when local commerce grows, the whole community gets stronger. Patch already provides free listings for local businesses and other tools to help build local brands. Whether you're a 10-year-old jewelry designer or a 79-year-old who carves wood knives…

Sisters open first-in-Missouri version of a studio mixing BYOB and art.
The last time you went out for a night on the town, you might have returned home with a doggy bag of leftovers, but not much else. A pair of Pattonville High School graduates are hoping the next time you go out, you'll come home with a painting. Sisters Patty Donaldson and Mary Schnure are co-owners of Painting With A Twist. It's the first Missouri franchise for the Louisiana based firm, which now has locations in 16 states. The Creve Coeur studio opens Thursday night at 12623 Olive Boulevard. The premise: you bring your own drinks and snacks, spend a few hours with friends and an art instructor, and leave with a painting. Franchise owners have 1600 designs to choose from when building their calendar, although private parties can select …

Peter Cohen is jumping into the coffee business.
Peter Cohen is a self-pronounced coffee hippie who's planning to trade nearly 15 years of banking for his own line of bold drinks. Cohen was among the vendors at the Clayton Farmer's Market on Saturday. "At the start of the year, I will be doing coffee full-time," said Cohen, a Creve Coeur resident whose roastery is in Fenton. On Saturday, a roasting machine churned beans as he spoke with market visitors and handed out cups of coffee. Cohen finds most St. Louis-area coffee to be bitter, but he wants his drinks to be bold without that element. He characterizes himself as a micro-artisan coffee roaster. Cohen also plays bass in a band. His company name—Stringbeans—combines the idea of strings on a musical instrument and that of coffee beans…

City resident hopes to support local authors.
After months of online posts sharing her journey toward opening a bookstore in Creve Coeur, reality started to hit Robin Tidwell in recent days. "Oh my god, we're really opening a bookstore," she recalled Saturday, a few minutes after she had officially done just that, at All On The Same Page Bookstore, 11052 Olive Blvd. The small, independent shop will sell new and used titles, and customers can earn store credit by bringing in their own books. Tidwell hopes to highlight local authors, and on Saturday, one of them was helping her. Tom Mee, Jr. a technical director on St. Louis Cardinals baseball telecasts on Fox Sports Midwest signed copies of his 2009 book, Cutting the Game: Inside Television Baseball from the Director's Chair. Tidwell …
