Barnes Jewish West Nurse Participates in Ethiopian Orphanage Project
The facility could break ground by summer.
As a nurse, Rebecca Geremew is used to taking care of people, no matter how far away they are. "The kids were just so starved for affection," said Geremew, 32, a nurse at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in Creve Coeur. "They just wanted to hold my hand and be held. All of the orphanages were like that." The sites Geremew visited were in Ethiopia, an impoverished East African nation tucked between Sudan and Somalia. But Geremew is doing more than simply visiting orphanages. She's helping to build one.
