The team announced Tuesday that the veteran pitcher is still dealing with effects of previous injury that sidelined him for most of 2012. Mercy doctors will likely be involved in evaluating what happens next.
The Mercy partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals as the team's official medical provider will get a high-profile start. The team announced Tuesday that Chris Carpenter, sidelined for most of the 2012 with thoracic outlet syndrome, will likely not pitch in 2013 after having trouble with offseason workouts. In a news conference broadcast on local media outlets, Cardinals VP and General Manager John Mozeliak announced that Carpenter would "utlize the Mercy network" among others in finding a way forward, after the player notified the team Friday that he was unable to throw at a high velocity after otherwise having had "a normal offseason," according to Mozeliak. The St. Louis Cardinals and Mercy health care unveiled a partnership Tuesday making the Chesterfield-based firm the major league baseball team's "official Medical Provider." It won't preclude a player from seeking out their own treatment elsewhere so if a pitcher wants a second or third opinion, or to have surgery performed elsewhere by the likes of a Dr. James Andrews, based in Alabama, they will continue to have that option. But the arrangement gives the team, minor league squads and employees on the business side of the organization, access to Mercy doctors, tapping into a wider umbrella of care. Crowds filled the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis Thursday to pay tribute to Stan "The Man" Musial. A private family funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. St. Louis Cardinal fans can watch live coverage of the funeral on Patch partners Fox 2 and News 11. Coverage of the funeral will begin at 10 a.m. The special will include the funeral, the procession from the Cathedral to Busch Stadium and the prayer service at Busch stadium after the funeral. A KMOX petition campaign is gaining steam and prominent Missouri State Senators are backing the idea with legislation.
In the days since Stan Musial passed away Saturday night, tributes have poured in from around St. Louis, the baseball world and beyond. Everyone, it seems, has a Stan Musial story. He may already have a statue outside Busch Stadium, but something even bigger could be on the way. KMOX Radio has started a petition campaign urging the Governors of Missouri and Illiniois to name new bridge spanning the Mississippi River in Musial's honor. KMOX reports the bridge will be finished next year. Late Tuesday afternoon, State Senators John Lamping (R-Ladue) and Eric Schmidt (R-Glendale) confirmed that they had filed legislation on the issue. The St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame legend died Saturday at the age of 92.
A public visitation for Stan Musial, the St. Louis Cardinals legend who died at his Ladue home Saturday at the age of 92, will be held Thursday at Cathedral Basillica, MLB.com reported Monday. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at the same location Saturday starting at 11 a.m. KMOX reports that Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, the Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson, Archbishop of St. Louis, and Bishop Richard Stika will officiate the mass. A procession will then lead to Busch Stadium for a ceremony at the Musial Statue. Stan "The Man" Musial, the St. Louis Cardinals legend who was widely considered "the greatest Cardinal," died on Saturday. That's the news that broke on Saturday. Today, we're interested in your stories about the pitcher-cum-outfielder who played for the Redbirds from 1941 to 1963. As a relatively newcomer to St. Louis (only here 11 years!) I can't say I have a lot of memories of Musial beyond meeting countless compatriots at the Musial statue at the last two versions of Busch Stadium. How about you? What do you remember about Musial? Stan Musial, a giant in the St. Louis community and the baseball world for more than half a century, died Saturday at his home in Ladue. "Stan the Man passed peacefully at home at 5:45 pm tonight of natural causes. Life will never be the same without baseball's perfect knight," his grandson, Brian Musial Schwarze said via Twitter Saturday evening. Musial was 92 and had been in poor health in recent years. Eric Bogard was accused of shining a laser pointer at the field of play during an August St. Louis Cardinals game at Busch Stadium.
Just over four months after he was criminally charged in connection with aiming a laser pointer onto the field of play at Busch Stadium, a student at Ladue Horton Watkins High School has reportedly been sentenced in connection with the incident that also led to the resignation of a Mercy Health executive. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Eric Bogard, of Creve Coeur, entered a guilty plea December 14 to a count of disturbing the peace at an athletic event and was sentenced by a St. Louis city municipal court judge to six months probation, 20 hours of community service and ordered to pay the St. Louis Cardinals $500 in costs.
