Vikings unable to rally back, after falling behind No. 7 Summit 21-0 in the first quarter.
After losing the Missouri Class 4 state baseball championship game in heart-breaking fashion last spring to Suburban South Conference rival Rockwood Summit, the Parkway North football team had plans on returning the favor when the Vikings and Falcons met in Week 3 of the football season. Many prominent figures from the baseball teams for both schools also put on the helmets and pads in the fall. But Summit put any thoughts of Parkway North revenge to bed early Saturday, by scoring on each of its first three possessions, then adding a fourth score on the final play of the first half, to build a 28-point lead that eventually became a 34-14 victory for the Falcons over the Vikings. The anticipated matchup was forced into Saturday when severe …

Sophomore Joe Hope throws just the 13th no-hitter in MSHSAA baseball Final Four history, in 1-0 Viking victory, that sets up an all-St. Louis championship game on Saturday, against local league rival Rockwood Summit.
SPRINGFIELD, MO. -- Parkway North baseball coach Fred Friedman has said several times that he has no problem turning the ball over to his two youngest players, sophomore Joe Hope and freshman Joey Reeves, even with the Vikings playing their biggest games of the season. That trust has paid big dividends through the playoffs, as Hope and Reeves have taken turns tossing complete-game victories for North in the district and sectional championship games, as well as last week's state quarterfinals. But on Friday night, Hope made his coach look like a genius, with a performance for the ages, as he tossed a no-hitter to lead Parkway North to a 1-0 win and a trip to Saturday's Class 4 state championship game. Hope struck out seven, walked two, and …

Despite concerns over field conditions, Vikings and Rams combine for 23 hits and 13 runs in entertaining matchup of conference frontrunners.
After another massive downpour hit the area Monday morning, making the original game location at Ladue High School unplayable, it wasn't until late in the afternoon that the Rams and their hopeful gameday opponent, Parkway North, were able to find someplace else suitable to play. And then, even though the field at the former Westminster Christian Academy, now known as Ladue's West Campus looked fantastic, especially considering all the earlier rain, it took more than a half an hour to convince the game umpires that the playing surface was dry enough to play on. But once head coaches Rob Garrett of Ladue and Fred Friedman of Parkway North were able to convince the umps that the field was indeed safe, the Rams and Vikings staged a wildly …

Senior Darrell Johnson’s 24-point, 22-rebound effort leads the way, as Vikes close out regular season with a victory over talented U. City club.
UNIVERSITY CITY – With its sights set firmly on the district playoffs, which begin for all Large school teams in Missouri next week, the Parkway North boys basketball team came into its regular season finale Friday night at University City High, hoping to finally fix a few minor problems that had cost the Vikings several games recently. And thanks to a magnificent effort by senior big man Darrell Johnson, Parkway North seemed to find the answers it was looking for, as it pulled out a thrilling 56-54 road win at U. City’s recently re-named Ed Crenshaw Gymnasium. “We played a real good first, third, and fourth quarter,” North head coach Russell Vincent said. “But we were pretty bad in the second quarter, when we kind of went back into some …

Colts dominate line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in 34-13 win over Statesmen.
CHESTERFIELD – Exactly three weeks ago to the day, the then-undefeated Parkway Central football team left PCH Stadium dismayed and disappointed, and a little beaten up, after suffering a three-touchdown loss to fellow Suburban South Conference power Kirkwood. Since then, the Colts have retooled and refocused, and seem to have found a formula that has once again made them one of the best teams in the state. And on Friday night, back at PCH Stadium, the new and improved Central squad showed just how powerful it could be, as it completely bullied previously unbeaten and statewide No. 2 ranked Webster Groves, 34-13, for a win that clinches the district championship for the Colts. “That’s something that’s such a nice feather in the cap for …

Junior Alan Gasanli had 165 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Central to big win over district rival North.
PARKWAY NORTH HIGH SCHOOL – The Saturday morning Homecoming festivities celebrated everything wonderful about Parkway North High School and its wonderful 40 years of football history. But the afternoon Homecoming football game itself, belonged to the party-crashers from Parkway Central, who quieted the celebration-minded North fans early, and kept them that way for the rest of the day, with a 26-7 win over the beloved host Vikings. “This one sure feels good,” Central head coach Mark Goldenberg said. “We lost to those guys three years in a row. My seniors and I, my staff, we we’re just getting tired of it. So it feels good to finally get one on those guys.” Central’s last win over North came on October 26, 2007, when star running back …

Quarterback Cole Gorman ran for a touchdown and threw for another in 28-9 Colts win over Falcons.
CHESTERFIELD – Maybe somebody forgot to tell the combatants in Thursday night’s Rockwood Summit at Parkway Central Suburban South Conference showdown, that the matchup was supposed to be an offensive show between two of the area’s highest-scoring teams. Or maybe the two defenses just decided they weren’t going to let it happen, which they did in impressive fashion, holding both offenses to well below their scoring and yardage averages. In the end though, the hometeam Colts managed to get just enough done, while sprinkling in a couple of big plays, that led them to 28-9 win over the visiting Falcons. “I felt like we missed some opportunities,” Central coach Mark Goldenberg said. “And I’m sure they felt like they missed some opportunities …

Central scores three times in second half to pull away in 28-9 victory over visiting Falcons.
CHESTERFIELD – The Parkway Central Colts continued their winning ways Thursday night at PCH Stadium, with a convincing 28-9 win over visiting Suburban South Conference foe Summit High. Central quarterback Cole Gorman ran for a score and threw for another one, while teammate Brandon Sheperd returned a kickoff 96 yards for his league-leading 16th touchdown of the season, as the Colts overcame a flat start to pick up a big win over the Falcons. Summit actually controlled the action for much of the first half, but wasn’t able to produce any points. And that proved to be a problem, as Central scored three touchdowns in the second half and held Summit to a field goal and a last-minute touchdown, to push its record to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in …

Jovonte Suber manages a three touchdown day as the Vikings' new lead running back.
UNIVERSITY CITY–After two weeks of intermittent great plays one moment and poor throws and decisions the next, University City quarterback DeAndre Williams decided it was time to put it all together and show off the total package. And boy, what a show he put on Friday at Muhl-Schemmer Stadium, when he threw three touchdown passes, ran for a fourth, and made all the key plays in the fourth quarter to lead U. City to a thrilling 25-20 win over Suburban South Conference rival Parkway North. “I’ve always thought that at critical times, you give the ball to your best player,” U. City head coach Carl Reed said. “If I’m going down, I’m going down with the ball in DeAndre Williams’ hands.” And Reed made sure to go all in with Williams, with the …
