Creve Coeur Forum On Deer Yields Familiar Sentiments And Some Surprises

An informal show of hands indicates support for exploring a bowhunting approach to handling nuisance deer.

A large audience turned out Monday for an information hearing and question and answer session at the Creve Coeur Government Center as city leaders look for public feedback about how to handle concerns over nuisance deer. The program began with a presentation from Erin Shank, from the Missouri Department of Conservation, to review what is known about the deer population from a statistical standpoint in Creve Coeur and St. Louis County, as well as which efforts are better at maintaining a steady population as opposed to reducing it. Shank said the research done by Town and Country leads the experts to believe that in the southwest corner of Creve Coeur bordering Town and Country has approximately 60 deer per square mile, and that the range …

Creve Coeur Couple Graduates From Citizen Police Academy

Weeks-long program is voluntarily taught by police officers from Creve Coeur and surrounding communities.

There is no official badge or authority that comes with it and no monetary compensation. There’s just the altruistic feeling of knowing that you are doing something good for your community. That’s what 26 area residents felt after completing a nine-week Citizen’s Police Academy and graduated Tuesday night at the Creve Coeur Government Center. The academy was taught in cooperation with Town & Country, Olivette, Frontenac, Des Peres and Creve Coeur police departments. The graduates ranged from a 16-year-old high school student to a retired 75-year-old man and even included a husband-and-wife team from Creve Coeur. It was the 14th graduating class of the course, which originated in Creve Coeur and later added the other four municipalities. …

Each of the 146 seniors gave the Head of School, James Marsh, a present as they crossed the stage.

The final class to graduate from Westminster Christian Academy has walked across the platform. In August, the school will move from its campus on Ladue Rd, where it's been since 1982, to a new campus in Town and Country, at Highway 40 and Maryville Centre Drive. One hundred and forty six seniors received diplomas. They shook hands with James Marsh, Head of School, and as per tradition, each gave Marsh a present. This year it was a Tootsie Pop. Marsh gave each senior a coin, inscribed with "Westminster 2011." Senior class officers, three of the six, told about rejected senior class gift ideas before announcing the gift. Police Score a Hole-in-One for Charity

Creve Coeur, Town and Country police departments organize annual Greens for Green charity golf tournament to benefit families of fallen officers.

One day a year, Creve Coeur police officer Neal Kohrs leaves his police car, weapons and badge and exchanges them for golf clubs, a baseball cap and a golf car. His outfit may change, but the goal remains the same: Help those in need. It's a scene and sentiment shared by Town and Country and Creve Coeur police. On Monday, both departments sponsored and played in the annual Greens for Green charity golf tournament. Close to 200 people attended the event at the Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, IL. "It's a fun day," said Kohrs, who is also the organizer of the event for Creve Coeur. "It allows the general public, the business community and the police officers to enjoy each other's company in a joint effort to support local charities. It's …

The PGA Championships Are Coming To Bellerive: Now What?

A look at next steps ahead for the club and the area in the wake of the PGA's decision to award two of golf's majors.

Now that Bellerive Country Club has successfully lured the PGA Tour back to the St. Louis area for major championships in 2013 and 2018, the work to pull them off begins. PGA Chief Executive Officer Joe Steranka indicated the club's history had something to do with earning the return engagements. The Town and Country club will become one of only a handful to host all of Golf's rotating American majors--The U.S. Open, The U.S. Senior Open, The PGA Championship and the Senior PGA--which means something about the course's golf pedigree. It also means this isn't the club's first rodeo when it comes to managing the logistics of the event. Club President Steve Schumm called those logistics "formidable", and said some of the PGA protocol "…

Impact on Creve Coeur wll be minimal except for traffic. Notable- Creve Coeur has very few hotel rooms for its size and location. After a hardware store for CC, a hotel in the Lindbergh/Olive area should be a priority development objective. David Caldwell editor, www.crevecoeurvoter.com   more ›

Bellerive To Get The Major Treatment

PGA Tournaments could bring $100 million to the St. Louis area and the state.

In a little more than two years, professional golf will return to West St. Louis County. Friday, local and state political leaders along Bellerive Country Club officials celebrated the news that the PGA Tour has awarded the Town and Country club host duties for the 2013 Senior PGA Tour Championship, to be played May 21-26 2013, and the PGA Tour Championship in August, 2018. "The reason we selected Bellerive was its great grand tradition, but also its approach to serving the needs of its community, and working in tandem with STL and with the state on the priorities that our nation, states and cities face today." PGA Chief Executive Officer Joe Steranka said at an afternoon press conference. "We're not surprised, but we are certainly honored…

From The Editor: Accidental Annexation

A look at what we think we know about our town.

It started a few weeks ago with a few simple questions. What do you think of when someone says Creve Coeur? Is there an iconic place? A scene? I was asking around as I was in pursuit of photos for a special project, which should be coming soon to our humble home here on the web. One person mentioned the greenway along New Ballas near the Creve Coeur Government Center. Another suggested the Interstate 270 area at Olive Blvd. I had my own thoughts, too. But there were some surprises. A few people mentioned Creve Coeur Lake, which, while a wonderful area, technically isn't part of the City of Creve Coeur. Neither is Creve Coeur Mill Road, which you take to get there. That got me thinking about all the things we think are in Creve Coeur, which…
