Former Ambassador and GOP fundraising insider had informally announced her intentions in May.
As a local politico and self-proclaimed “hometown girl,” Ann Wagner of Ballwin has worn many hats. She’s served as a member of the Lafayette Township Committee, she’s chaired the Missouri Republican Party, and she's co-chaired the Republican National Committee. She served as the United States Ambassador to Luxembourg before an unsuccessful bid to lead the RNC earlier this year. On Thursday, however, her latest hat was exchanged for an umbrella as she formally announced her bid for Congress after a heavy downpour in Ballwin. “I’m tired of a government that taxes too much, that borrows too much and spends too much of our hard-earned dollars,” Wagner told a crowd of more than 150 supporters, who gathered under a tent following a slowdown in …

Congressman would face at least one other confirmed candidate, former state treasurer Sarah Steelman.
Echoing themes of limited government, living within means, and calling himself "a consistent conservative," U.S. Representative Todd Akin (R-Town and Country) entered what is now a Republican party primary field to unseat Democrat Claire McCaskill in 2012. “Missouri has a choice of two futures. State lawmaker will enter 2nd District race if Akin runs for Senate.
State Sen. Jane Cunningham is setting her sights on Congress. In an interview Friday, Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, said she will run for the 2nd Congressional seat if U.S. Rep. Todd Akin runs for the U.S. Senate. Akin, a Republican from Town and Country, may announce his candidacy Tuesday in Creve Coeur. “I give courtesy to the congressman while he holds that seat,” Cunningham said. “And as of now, he still holds that seat. It’s not open until he announces.” Cunningham's state Senate district includes parts of St. Louis County, including parts of Creve Coeur. Cunningham said it was important to send “a conservative” to Washington, D.C. She pointed to a successful ballot initiative – known as Proposition C – that passed last year aimed at …
