Brad Davis & Will Bruin Earn Camp Invite For U.S. Men's Soccer Team

The Chaminade and De Smet grads were named to the training camp roster for the men's national team.

The offseason just got a little shorter for a pair of Creve Coeur prep soccer alums who only last month took their pro team to the doorstep of an MLS Cup. Brad Davis (Chaminade) and Will Bruin (De Smet Jesuit), who are teammates on the Houston Dynamo, were both named to the practice roster for the U.S. Men's National squad as it prepares to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. The first match of the 2013 season for the national club is a "friendly" against Canada, in Houston January 27. “It is definitely an honor to get a chance to represent your country, and I am really excited for it,” said Bruin in a statement released by Houston. “I think this is a great opportunity, and one I’ve been waiting for.” Said Davis, “The off-season was awfully …

2012 MLS Cup TV Listings: Houston Dynamo vs. LA Galaxy

There are lots of Creve Coeur ties to the Major League Soccer finals, along with what will be David Beckham's swan song in U.S. pro soccer.

For the second straight season, the Houston Dynamo and the LA Galaxy will square off for the top prize in men's American pro soccer, the MLS Cup. And that means another chance to catch several Creve Coeur prep soccer alums on the field in what will also be David Beckham's last pro match in the U.S. Brad Davis (Chaminade) and Will Bruin (De Smet Jesuit) once again play signficant roles for Houston, while Pat Noonan (De Smet Jesuit) is expected to come off the bench for Los Angeles. LA Galaxy Vice President Chris Klein is also a De Smet Jesuit graduate who won an MLS Cup in 2000. Davis and Bruin will look to avenge last year's final, a 1-0 Galaxy win. In a statement released Friday by De Smet Jesuit, Varsity Soccer Coach Greg Vitello said “…

MLS Final Has Creve Coeur Drama To It

The Houston Dynamo will try to take down Beckham's LA Galaxy minus their best player in Chaminade alum Brad Davis, but with De Smet's Will Bruin ready to help.

It has already been a drama-filled weekend for Creve Coeur area soccer fans, as De Smet and Priory both won state titles in Blue Springs Saturday night. Sunday, the world could see how one Chaminade graduate's absence is felt in Major League Soccer's Championship game and if a De Smet graduate is able to help pick up the slack. The Houston Dynamo suffered a major loss when Brad Davis (Chaminade) went out against Kansas City with a quad injury last week. Davis, the team's leader in assists and the runner-up in this year's MLS MVP voting, will not play Sunday in the MLS Cup final against the L.A. Galaxy. The blow means his teammates, including rookie Will Bruin (De Smet) will have an even greater opportunity to make a difference. Bruin, who …

From Chaminade To Washington D.C.

Goalkeeper who learned the ropes in Creve Coeur now trying to make an impact in pro soccer.

On January 13, Chaminade graduate and Oakville native Joe Willis sat at his computer watching the 2011 Major League SuperDraft, looking for teams needing goalkeepers. “I was expecting if I were to get picked in the SuperDraft it would be toward the end. And when I saw Seattle took the goalie from Monmouth in the second round, then I pretty much thought that was it, since I didn’t see any other teams needing goalies,” Willis said. Shortly after that the 6-foot-5-inch, 190-pound netminder got a call from an assistant coach at D.C. United who said the team traded for the 50th overall pick in the SuperDraft and was going to take Willis. “I was surprised, and I didn’t know what to say,” Willis said. “I called my parents and my brother right …

De Smet Grad Bruin Making His Mark On MLS

The Houston Dynamo has a pair of Creve Coeur high school standouts leading the way.

Will Bruin may only be a rookie but he is quickly becoming a star in Major League Soccer by earning MLS Player of the Week honors and performing unusual celebrations. The St. Louis native and former De Smet Jesuit High School star leads the Houston Dynamo with four goals on the young season including a hat trick against D.C. United on April 29. "Getting that first one at home early in the game is huge for any home team because they ended up tying the game," Bruin said. "The second goal before halftime was huge for momentum and the third one gave us that extra cushion." Bruin became only the fourth rookie to ever score a hat trick in a game and joins fellow St. Louisan and De Smet Spartan alum Pat Noonan in that category.  Bruin also broke …
