Thursday's winter storm has brought another round of school closings for Friday at major school districts in the West and Central St. Louis County area.
UPDATED: 7:55 p.m.- A heavy load of snow and ice from Thursday's winter storm has canceled school in the West and Central St. Louis County area for another day. Accidents in both directions have resulted in lane closures around the area where I-64, I-270 and Route 141 converge.
Traffic is extremely slow or altogether at a stop on sections of Highway 40/Interstate 64 near Highway 141 and I-270 due to accidents in both directions that have several lanes closed. Emergency crews are currently working to clear two accidents, one in the eastbound lanes at Woodsmill Drive and one westbound at Maryville Center Drive, both of which have closed multiple lanes, said MoDOT Community Relations Coordinator Linda Wilson Horn. There is no clear time frame for when the lanes will be re-opened. Horn said traffic maps for the area around where I-64, I-270 and 141 converge are "almost all red and yellow," indicating that vehicles are moving very slowly. Police officials also said the interstate is experiencing significant issues…
The cancellations include all American Airlines flights in or out of the city after 3 p.m.
The mix of snow, sleet and ice hitting the St. Louis area has forced dozens of cancellations at Lambert International Airport, including all American Airlines flights in or out of the city after 3 p.m. More than 40 arrivals and 40 departures had been cancelled by 8:30 a.m., according to the airport’s blog, and a check of online flight information at 11:10 a.m. showed that number had risen to more than 160 total cancelled flights. 1.) With the increased traffic on the Daniel Boone Bridge due to lane closures on the Blanchette, why did they decide to do blasting now? It doesn't make sense to have closures on one of the alternate routes. Drivers in the Lake St. Louis/Wentzville area do not have easy access to the Page extension. 2.)
