2012 Whitfield Soccer Preview

The Warriors, a local power in recent years, are looking to return to form this fall.

Whitfield School Head Soccer Coach Bill Daues provided Patch with a few quick keys as the soccer season for the Creve Coeur school gets underway next week. The squad finished 5-20 in 2011 but still reached the district title game. 1. Key Returnees:  Juniors - Billy Gardner (midfield), Collen Frost (forward), Nicolas Cuevas (midfield), Rodney Hahn (defender) Sophmore - T.J. Chulick (defender) 2. Whitfield Coach Honored By St. Louis Soccer Community

Whitfield's Bill Daues is named "Coach of the Year."

Over a thousand St. Louis soccer coaches, players, retired players, and family of players and coaches gathered downtown at the Millennium Hotel for the 41st annual St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame induction ceremony. On Thursday night, they came to honor most dedicated and talented. Among those, was 22-year veteran Whitfield coach, Bill Daues, who was given the Jimmy Dunn "Coach of the Year" Award. Daues said it's great to recognized, but called it a "shared award," because making a good soccer player is about the process, which involves every coach and player played with and against along the way. He also said receiving the award is a "once in a lifetime" honor. "It's hard to become a good soccer player, and it should be hard," he said. …

Creve Coeur Area Soccer Coach And Players To Be Honored This Fall

Whitfield's Bill Daues to receive the area's highest honor for prep coaches in October as part of St. Louis Soccer Hall Of Fame Festivities.

The Creve Coeur area's ability to produce prolific soccer talent on the field and on the sideline will be honored by the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame in October. Whitfield School Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Bill Daues, who has won 3 of the last 4 state Class 1 titles and was named Class 1 Coach of the Year in 2010, will receive the Jimmy Dunn Memorial High School Coach of the Year during annual Hall of Fame festivities in October. Prep Soccer Preview: Whitfield Set to Defend State Championship

The Warriors won the Class 1 state title for the seventh time last season.

The Whitfield boys soccer team started the 2010 season with four consecutive losses. The Warriors finished with eight straight victories which culminated in a Class 1 state championship. "We never make it our goal to win the state title," said Whitfield coach Bill Daues, who nevertheless has coached seven champions in his 22 years, including three of the last four. "If you make such a lofty goal you just set yourself up for disappointment. We just try to improve as the season goes on." That certainly happened last season as Whitfield won post-season games against Lutheran North (2-0), Bayless (3-2 in overtime), Kennedy (5-0) and Springfield Catholic (1-0 in the championship game).
