New Rules For Deerhunters In Creve Coeur This Year

Bow-hunting season starts September 15.

Saturday marks the first day of the first full season of deer hunting allowed in the City of Creve Coeur. In 2011, city council passed an ordinance allowing bow hunting after consulting with state conservation officials and getting feedback from residents, who were primarily concerned with the concentration of deer on the city's west side. New in 2012, Creve Coeur Police are issuing a photo ID card. The ID card only means that the hunter has a valid city permit to hunt and does not indicate that the hunter has undergone a criminal background check. Also new this year is the kind of notification being made to neighboring property owners and residents. A fluorescent sign will have to be posted on the property being hunted. Police Chief Glenn…

Curt.....The permit process is done through the Creve Coeur Police Department. It is up to hunters to get the permission from landowners. Generally speaking, the deer population is more of a problem on the western side of the city.   more ›

Deerhunting Tactics Targeted: Creve Coeur Council Hears Citizen Concerns

Critics say prospective bowhunters are going door-to-door to solicit interested property owners.

Less than a month after Creve Coeur's city council enacted legislation legalizing bowhunting of deer as a way of thinning what has grown into a nuisance-level population in parts of the city, the way the ordinance is being carried out has members of the public and city council members looking for clarification. The city began accepting bowhunting permits November 1. According to Creve Coeur Police chief Glenn Eidman, there have been seven approved requests and a total of two deer have been killed as a result of the hunts. Tammy Walsh, a resident in the Twin Creek subdivision, contacted the city late last month and appeared before city council members Monday to express her concerns that prospective hunters are actively soliciting residents …
