Surgery will keep Brian Hook in mending mode when the state legislative special session starts next week in Jefferson City.
No special session coverage due to surgery I am bummed. I have been following and reporting about tax credits and other economic development incentives since last year when Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon formed a commission to look for ways to reform the state’s 61 tax credit programs. Tax credit reform, however, did not pass before the end of the legislative session in May. Since then, I have been told I need surgery on my arm to repair nerve damage. While on vacation, earlier this month, the surgery was scheduled for Friday. Being an optimist, apparently, I heard the surgeon say I would be out for at least two weeks following the surgery. My wife heard it could be a month. We both heard it may take six months before my left hand is fully …

The agreement with SyMyco means the possibility of 80 jobs over the next five years.
A new company coming to Creve Coeur may soon find itself listed in Patch's Who's Hiring feature. Tuesday, city, county and state officials gathered at the BRDG Park on the campus of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center to trumpet the announcement of as many as 80 new jobs heading for the Park's top floor. SyMyCo, a three year-old international bio-research firm is moving the company's U.S. operations to Creve Coeur. SyMyCo works on products which reduce a plant's reliance on water and fertilizers while boosting crop yields. Governor Jay Nixon was on hand for the announcement, saying the company's move to Missouri came with the promise of more than a million dollars in incentives if the firm creates 80 jobs over the next five years. …

Governor Nixon and company officials will make the announcement official Tuesday.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon will be making a return trip to the campus of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center Tuesday, to announce an international firm's plan to create 80 new jobs to be housed in the Bio Research & Development Growth or BRDG Park. The Governor will be joined by officials from a company called SyMyCo. Officials at the BRDG Park were not immediately available for comment Monday. The state's chief executive was at the Danforth Center July 21 as the backdrop to outline his support for the Missouri Science Reinvestment Act (MOSIRA), which is to be considered by lawmakers next month in a special legislative session. The legislation would set aside a portion of state income tax dollars created by new high-tech jobs to fund…

The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center will be the stage for address.
On Monday, when Missouri Governor Jay Nixon first announced his plans to be in Creve Coeur Thursday to deliver a major address on related to business development and jobs, speculation was ripe that he would use the speech to announce a call for a special legislative session. He ended up doing so a day before his trip to the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, after lawmakers announced they had come to an agreement on a $360 million economic development package. According to Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch the deal, among other things, would pave the way for Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to become a hub for China cargo traffic. The St. Louis Business Journal reports the Governor will use the Creve Coeur visit to lay out what he …

The speech at the Danforth Plant Science Center is expected to focus on job creation, high-tech growth.
Governor Jay Nixon will be at the Danforth Plant Science Center Thursday morning to make what his office is calling a major address regarding "business development strategies and initiatives to help create jobs, promote growth in the high-tech sector, and leverage Missouri’s competitive advantages in a global economy." That broad statement comes amid continuing speculation over a special legislative session to handle the so-called "Aerotropolis" bill to make Lambert-St. Louis International Airport a Chinese cargo hub, according to a report by KMOX Radio Tuesday. Creve Coeur area state legislators told Creve Coeur Patch said they had no advance notice of Thursday's event. State Senator John Lamping has previously said he expected a veto …

Here's a weekly roundup of some of the other news about the news in Creve Coeur.
Each week, we're working hard to produce stories that matter to you and are worth your attention. We realize we aren't the only ones in that endeavor. This week, the spotlight shines on a Creve Coeur company which is helping neighbors to the north recover from recent flooding, to a hack attack at a company headquartered in the city, plus one local organization that gets high marks as a workplace. The Associated Press and St. Louis Public Radio Radio reported, on the so-called Amy Hestir Student protection Act, authored by State Senator Jane Cunningham, as well as Senate Bill 320, sponsored by State Senator John Lamping. Cunningham's legislation addresses issues surrounding sexual abuse of students at the hands of school officials. Lamping'…

Stephanie Sanditz saddened by move to close Missouri Film Office as part of budget cuts.
You can count Creve Coeur native Stephanie Sanditz among those who were disappointed to learn of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon's decision to close the Missouri Film Office as part budget cuts earlier this year. The move, which according to Missouri Watchdog reporter Brian Hook eliminates the office but moves the duties (and the tax credit programs used to lure production) into the Missouri Department of Economic Development, effective starting July 1. Patch profiled Sanditz and her rise through the ranks of the acting and screenplay writing world earlier this year. She has a screenplay written for a dark coming of age high school comedy entitled Creve Coeur, MO. In an email last week, Sanditz said she was unsure how the budget cut would …

PGA Tournaments could bring $100 million to the St. Louis area and the state.
In a little more than two years, professional golf will return to West St. Louis County. Friday, local and state political leaders along Bellerive Country Club officials celebrated the news that the PGA Tour has awarded the Town and Country club host duties for the 2013 Senior PGA Tour Championship, to be played May 21-26 2013, and the PGA Tour Championship in August, 2018. "The reason we selected Bellerive was its great grand tradition, but also its approach to serving the needs of its community, and working in tandem with STL and with the state on the priorities that our nation, states and cities face today." PGA Chief Executive Officer Joe Steranka said at an afternoon press conference. "We're not surprised, but we are certainly honored…
