5th Grade Center on Schedule, on Budget

Dr. Jason Buckner briefs the board about the construction progress.

The new 5th grade center, to open this August on the new West Ladue campus is on schedule for completion and all renovation costs are under budget according to Dr. Jason  Buckner, Ladue's assistant superintendent for business and finance. He expects more detailed reporting at the June board meeting. All of the improvements to the center are paid for out of Prop "O" funds as promised to the tax payers. Dr. Buckner expects only $25,000 to $50,000 be left over after all the bills are paid. The district is yet to purchase some $200,000 of furniture for the school. "We're right on budget, we promised the tax payers," he noted. The district was able to do this and complete the Ladue Early Childhood Center on the 30-acre site on Ladue Road, west …

School Safety: A Major Concern of the Ladue School District

The district has 125 two-way radios; more than 200 surveillance cameras in place and extensive planning to protect students and staff alike.

Long before the tragic Sandy Hook school shooting or the Instagram incident at Ladue Middle School, the Ladue School District has had sophisticated and well-planned security measures in place for years. Meanwhile, the district’s security planning and execution goes back more than a decade. Jason Buckner, assistant superintendent for finance and the district’s CFO, has worked on issues involving district security. He gave an update to the school board Monday night. “Our goal is to be 100 percent safe at all times in the district. Sometimes, our own homes are not even 100 percent secured,” Buckner said. There was some discussion of level of involvement by students themselves. Jeff Kopolow, board member and retired teacher, said he has had …

Ladue School Board Approves the 2012-13 Operating Tax Levy and Debt Service Levy

Operating tax levy rolled back slightly from where it was last year.

Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Dr. Jason Buckner recommended, and the Board approved, setting the operating tax levy at $3.24 for all subcategories of property for the 2012 tax year (2012-13) budget. This increases the district’s tax levy from $2.75 for the first time in nearly twenty years and is the direct result of voters passing Proposition 1 in April 2012. In addition, Dr. Buckner recommended, and the Board approved, a debt service (bond) levy of $.39, increasing the levy by $.04 from the $.35 levy set for the 2011-12 school year. The operating tax levy and the debt service levy were both set beneath the ceilings approved by the Missouri State Auditor’s Office.   As a result of a decrease in property assessments, …

Ladue Board Places Tax Levy Measure on April Ballot

Election will be held April 3, 2012 on a proposal to raise the levy by 49 cents.

The Ladue School Board voted without opposition Monday to place a 49-cent tax levy increase on the April ballot. After months of discussions, the board voted earlier this month to propel the tax levy increase for voter consideration. Left unfinished was choosing the date of the public vote, as well as a one-letter name for the proposition. The board voted unanimously to hold the election on April 3, 2012 and to call the measure ‘Proposition 1.’ Jason Buckner, the district’s assistant superintendent for business and finance, said the administration had considered holding the vote on the tax levy in February as a show of respect to staff who could be affected if the measure doesn’t pass. “At first we thought – mainly because in respect to …
