City officials are trying to avoid the anger that comes when residents are upset about Olive Boulevard during snowstorms.
Last month's winter snowstorm that crippled traffic on main thoroughfares around the St. Louis area and in Creve Coeur could bring about a change in city policy to help Missouri Department of Transportation plowing efforts. City officials praised the work done by city crews to clear city streets under Creve Coeur's jurisdiction, but Mayor Bary Glantz has pointed to residential frustration that main arteries, like Olive Boulevard and Lindbergh Boulevard, were impassable. The streets are state-owned road, meaning it is MoDOT's responsibility to clear them. But Glantz's concern is the residential perception that will hang the blame on Creve Coeur for problems with Olive and not the state. In this most recent storm, the city did respond on …

Creve Coeur City council members are also scheduled to vote Monday on Post II Sports Bar & Grill's proposal for the former Growler's Pub space.
Creve Coeur's City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission will sit down for a joint work session Monday night as the community discussion about a pair of important planning topics picks up steam. The much-discussed need to revisit and potentially update the city's Comprehensive Plan will be one area that comes up. The Plan was first adopted in 2002 and was seen as a 20-years out guide for evaluating how development projects fit into the bigger picture of the city's needs and community desires. The plan was cited as being out of date by Delmar Gardens in the company's recent failed bid to build a residential and assisted living complex on Ladue Road. But even those on the Planning and Zoning Commission who supported the project conceded…

Olivette Mayor Arthur Merdinian and City Manager Mike McDowell say the city is taking steps to work with developers and update ordinances.
Olivette city officials are brushing off criticism brought on by a pair of developers who told Patch Olivette was "anti-progress" and "stuck in a time warp." Last week, Steve Noles and Bob Elkan vented their frustration over what they contend has been years of effort to develop the corner of Olive Boulevard and Interstate 170. Read: Developer Slams City; Calls Olivette 'Anti-Progress' As Patch previously reported, city officials said the pair have never submitted a formal proposal for the property. In a sit-down interview Monday, Mayor Arthur Merdinian, City Manager Mike McDowell and Carlos Trejo, the city's planning and zoning administrator repeated that contention. The trio also said the city made clear as long as three years ago that …

An organizer said the group's sign along Olive Boulevard won't be up until next month.
The state of Missouri's Adopt-A-Highway program, which has been in operation since 1987 and has served as a way for the private sector to help clean state-maintained roads, is about to allow a group which says it has "questions" about the 9/11 attacks, to "adopt" a stretch of Olive Boulevard. The story was first reported by KMOX Monday. A "St. Louis 9-11 Questions" Group which started on meetup.com and holds regular meetings in the area, will adopt the area of Olive Boulevard between Lindbergh and Old Bonhomme in Olivette. Links on the group's website have suggested that the 9/11 Commission report was a 571-page lie, and that the "9//11 Debacle was an INSIDE job." An organizer for the group, Donald Stahl, told Patch the goal of the sign …

The Olive-Graeser Transportation Development District had sought roughly $30,000 over the summer.
Almost three months after city council members rebuffed a request by the Olive-Graeser Transportation Development District (TDD) for money to help pay off outstanding legal and administrative costs, members of the board have formally approved measures which together will cut down on costs. In a meeting held Tuesday afternoon at the Creve Coeur Government Center, members approved the changes, which include extending out the payment period to the Board's legal counsel, naming Creve Coeur Finance Director Dan Smith as the TDD's treasurer, and reducing insurance costs for board members. The board's main responsibility, overseeing a reconstructed intersection at Olive Boulevard and Graeser Rd. with a traffic signal at the site of the new …

City officials have been unable to reach the artist supposed to build an artistic bus shelter on Olive Boulevard.
Little Red Riding Hood may not be coming to Creve Coeur. Artists who won a design competition for a public transit shelter to be located near the CVS Pharmacy and St. Luke's Urgent Care on Olive Boulevard have not been in contact with city officials for several months, and have yet to sign a contract for the project. Creve Coeur Planning and Community Development Director Paul Langdon told City Planning and Zoning Commissioners Monday that as a result, city officials are looking at other alternatives, including the possibility of working with the artist who finished second in the initial selection process. Volkan Alkanoglu, who paired with Marc Fornes to win the contest last year, told Patch by email Wednesday that he notified city …

Construction work on the Olive Blvd./Graeser Transportation Development District could wrap up next week.
Construction on the intersection on Olive Boulevard at Graeser Road and Dautel Lane is inching closer to completion. Thursday morning, the pedestrian traffic lights at the intersection were functional, all as part of a project which realigned the intersection and installed a traffic light in the area as part of Walgreens' move to a new location in Creve Coeur. Creve Coeur City Administrator Mark Perkins told city council members Monday that the pedestrian lights were going to be on by the end of this week, with the goal of finishing remaining work on a traffic median and other items by the end of next week, according to Pace Properties. While the traffic light has been functional since earlier this spring and the Walgreens opened last …
