Teacher Sexually Touched Home-Schooled Student, Police Say

Police said Joseph T. Maddock taught at several schools in St. Louis County since 2001. He's now being accused of sexually touching a 10-year-old student.

A teacher is being accused of sexually touching a 10-year-old student during a home school session in Lake Saint Louis. Joseph T. Maddock, who also worked for a number of West St. Louis County school districts, was charged Monday in St. Charles County with first-degree statutory sodomy. Lake Saint Louis Police said Maddock, 34, of the first block of Cedar Bluff in Lake Saint Louis, met the boy and his parents while he was teaching at another school. Police reported he convinced the boy’s parents to teach the boy in a home-school environment. Maddock had been teaching at the boy’s Lake Saint Louis home five days a week during the school year. Graphic Detail Emerges In Berger Sexual Misconduct Case

The former newspaper columnist was charged in October after Creve Coeur Police said he had unwanted sexual contact with a man in a checkout line.

Jerry Berger’s attorneys and county prosecutors met with St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Judy Preddy Draper for a hearing Tuesday morning. Berger was not required to attend. Berger, 79, the former St. Louis Post-Dispatch gossip columnist, and a resident of the 300 block of Magna Carta in Creve Coeur, was charged Oct. 9 with two counts of first-degree sexual misconduct. New Information: Gossip Scribe Berger Charged With Sexual Misconduct

Jerry Berger faces misdemeanor counts reportedly stemming from a February incident.

Updated Friday with information from Creve Coeur Police: A St. Louis County judge issued a criminal summons earlier this month for longtime columnist Jerry Berger, charged with two misdemeanor counts of sexual misconduct. The incident in question took place February 22. A Creve Coeur Police press release said a man alerted authorities in August and alleged Berger "groped him in an intimate area while he was waiting in line to check out," of a business in the 11600 block of Olive Boulevard. Police would not identify the business Friday. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where Berger worked before starting his own website, reports that Berger had no comment Thursday. Creve Coeur Police Forward Mercy Sex Complaint To State

Hospital officials decline comment.

Creve Coeur Police say they have forwarded a complaint about allegations of sexual misconduct by a doctor at Mercy Hospital St. Louis to the Missouri Department of Healing Arts. The allegation emerged in a case that came to the attention of the Creve Coeur Municipal Court, although no criminal charges have been filed. Police officials say they then forwarded the information to state regulators. Travis Ford, a spokesman for the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration--the agency which oversees the Department of Healing Arts, could not confirm the existence of a complaint due to confidentiality rules.
