Authorities Identify Crash Victim As Missouri Baptist Student

Clay Pfeiffer, 18, was pronounced dead at an area hospital

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Chesterfield Police have identified Clay Pfeiffer as the lone fatality in a serious car accident on Olive Boulevard at Creve Coeur Mill Road Tuesday morning.

Chesterfield Police's Public Information Officer Steve Lewis told Patch an eastbound vehicle on Olive Boulevard crossed the center line, and struck two vehicles, including Pfeiffer's.

Vianney High School, where Pfeiffer attended before starting at Missouri Baptist University this fall as an infielder on the baseball team, first released word of his death Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday morning, through the Missouri Baptist Facebook page, the school said in a statement:

"Although he had not yet had the opportunity to play this season, he was a student-athlete with a tremendous work ethic, and was considered a strong supporter to his team and friends both on and off the field."

Funeral arrangements have not been released.

Update 12:30 p.m.

Missouri Baptist Head Baseball Coach Eddie Uschold praised Pfeiffer as a hard worker who was respected and loved by his teammates. "It's not going to be easy," he said, but he said the team would honor his memory going forward on and off the field for the rest of the season.

The team met Tuesday night and would work out Wednesday. Uschold said he has been in contact with officials at Bethel College, where the Spartans are scheduled to play this weekend. The team will not make the trip if it conflicts with funeral services.

"He was going to be a pretty good player," Uschold said of Pfeiffer, who was going to redshirt his freshman season but was still traveling with the team.
