Veterans from Across the Country Find Gateway to Future as Community Leaders in St. Louis

Founded by Parkway North grad Eric Greitens, The Mission Continues helps post-9/11 veterans transition to new careers

More than 80 veterans of the war on terror will gather in St. Louis July 19– 21, to begin the next chapter of serving their country: leading their communities at home.  The veterans are the latest recruits for The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit organization headquartered in St. Louis that helps veterans to navigate the transition to post-military life through six-month volunteerism stints in their local communities.

The Mission Continues is the brainchild of retired Navy SEAL, Time 100 2013 honoree and Parkway North high school graduate Eric Greitens, who recognized that by giving veterans a new mission in their communities at home, we can empower them to lead and serve again.

Throughout their orientation in St. Louis, veterans will participate in leadership training and lead an all-hands community service project to rehabilitate the Boys & Girls Club of Greater St. Louis in North St. Louis. The St. Louis Cardinals and Fox Sports Midwest will also host the veterans for a special ceremony in front of the crowds at Busch Stadium. On the field Sunday afternoon, the veterans will pledge an oath of service to the community before returning to their hometowns to spend the next six months volunteering with local nonprofits.

“What is unique about The Mission Continues is our emphasis on empowering veterans to have a positive, personal impact on their local community,” said Greitens. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our hometown.  We’re honored to bring the collective enthusiasm of veterans from across the country to support the greater St. Louis community.”
